Beautiful falls, but you can't take the stairs down to see the falls up close because they are now under repair. Technically, the whole park is closed.

Don't miss this waterfall. I've been in the winter, autumn and summer. From ice cascades, to rushing water surrounded by colorful hardwoods to a refreshing interlude on a hot summer day this is the go to waterfall! Easy to get to, lovely tidy park, plenty of parking. Great for all because the walkway is paved and you can see the... More

I was deeply disappointed to find the access road to Whitewater Falls closed with a sign attributing the closure to fire damage. Fire damage included the steps down to the falls. As I continued down the road heading south, I could see through the trees which hadn't leafed out yet, to pristine Lake Jocassee only to see the extent of... More

Whitewater Falls is the highest waterfall east of the Mississippi and cannot be seen all from one spot. There are some paths down to the lower falls from the parking are, but one is very dangerous and many people have fallen to their deaths. Don't join them. There is a very convenient set of steps down to a lower observation... More

A must see if you are in the area. Pay the park fee and walk in to see the falls. We didn't walk down because we were with small kids but absolutely amazing!!

We tried to visit on Tuesday 11/22 but the Forest Service had closed the gate for the parking lot and posted signs warning it was closed and fines of up to $5000 would be given for people who left their cars. We were so sorry to learn this as we know it is a gorgeous place to visit - we'll... More
