The 1.9 mike hike to the top is a relatively short hike, but the elevation gain makes it feel much harder. The two view stations at the top offer tremendous views and a map showing you what mountain ranges you are seeing, which include grandfather...More

A good trail, many switchbacks to climb the mountain. Beautiful views from the top on high visibility days. About 2 miles to the top from the parking lot at the trail head. Picnic facilities in the park. Friendly rangers.

This is a hike that you will want to take a snack and drink on. Backpack is actually recommended as it took us hours to hike up and then back down. Most of the path is gravel, but in areas you do have to step...More

My sister, her husband and I hiked the Summit trail. This is a beautiful remote park. The trail was well maintained, and the view at the top was definitely worth the hike!

We came to the area to hike at a time when the local section of the BlueRidge Parkway was out down. Elk Nob Summit trail was suggested to us. We hiked the trail on a warm day that followed a snow-ice storm. The trail was...More

Located only about ten miles northeast of Boone, Elk Knob is one of North Carolina’s newest state parks. The hike to the top of Elk Knob is rated moderate to strenuous, but the views from the summit, 5,520 feet in elevation, are well worth the...More
