The most industrialized of all North Carolina's rivers, this water system stretches 200 miles through the heart of the North Carolina piedmont, crossing the coastal plain, and empties into the Atlantic near Southport.

If you go downtown and take the river boardwalk you will enjoy a lot of fun activities, see the sun go down, watch the boats on the river and see the romantic side of life walking along.

Commercial river looks active with industry all around. Boats barges steel rust. Not a pretty sight but does mean money. Wouldn't eat the fish but a true port.

Super nice river walk area, with a visitor center, restrooms, lots of great restaurants and shoppy-shops. We really enjoyed it. We read all the historical and interpretive signs as we went and just took it all in. Highly recommend it if you are in town.

It's the vaastness of the scene, with the dynamic, drenched colors and hues that make an evening stroll along the riverwalk worth it's weight in goldness. Highly recommend. Do once; do often.
