Went for a hike on the trail around the reservoir. Fresh fall smells and sounds, a great walk. 2&1/2 miles easy for everyone. Trail great and wide enough for the whole family. This park has seasonal boat and kayak rental. A beach for swimming and play areas for the kids. All and all a very nice park.

I was last at McDowell Dam a year ago. We went swimming. It was really gross. Lots of seaweed and algae and stuff in the water. I got out fast. I will not be going there again. UGH!!

It is so beautiful at McDowell Dam. The water is clear and they have paddle boats available for rent. The beach is clean and the sand is really nice. The picnic areas are nice and clean as well. There are bathrooms available and they aren't portapotties which is great when you have kids. It's nice to be able to actually... More

Went here many of times! Such a great place to relax and tan. Kids love to go here, we typically rent the pedal boats. Recommend if you don't mind getting dirty while having fun.

This is a really nice place to go that is close to Bismarck. The fishing is ok in the early spring but gets pretty green after that. They have really nice picnic areas but reserve them if you have a planned outing. The small water size makes it nice for learning to canoe or kayak. There is a beach, play... More

This is a great place to go in the summer for kids to swim. The water is warmer than the river. The only thing that stinks is it can get quite busy. Also a great place to relax at the park.

We rented a paddle boat, went swimming, built sand castles, had a picnic, and were able to shower off before getting in the car to go home. We had a ball!

I almost don't want to review this hidden gem of the Bismarck area, because our family loves this place so much! They have a groomed trail that is about 3 miles around the lake. There is no fee for entrance and you can take your dogs around the lake. It is a moderate hike with small hills, but great way... More

At least it is according to my father, who was hinting to my then-boyfriend on where to propose to me! McDowell Dam is a fun lake to visit. There's plenty of play equipment for the kids and lots of items that you can rent for a very reasonable price to use in the water. They will also provide you with... More
