About
This building is truly special. It is one of only a few commercial buildings in BC from this era with intact interior elements. It contains all of the counters, shelving, gas lights, string holders, paper dispensers, as well as a cash register, weigh scale, coffee grinder, cheese wheel and many other items that were used in the operation of the store. The museum aslo contains information on Ainsworth's rich history in the region. Stepping into this store is truly like stepping back in time. The museum also hosts an artisan gift shop filled with beautiful handmade goods as well as an amazing selection of crystals, gemstones, singing bowls, leather goods, and eco friendly Canadian made clothing.

We'd seen this store/museum before from the outside but that was before they renovated and restored it to glory. You'll now find all sorts of items in a building that would (if it were possible) be a valuable addition to a place like Heritage Park in Calgary. Not only general store items like clothing, shoes, tools, medicines and knick-knacks, but other more expensive items of the day like tube radios and cranked telephones. All in very good or pristine condition. Be sure to stop there for at least an hour if you go to Ainsworth and/or Kaslo.

By donation and a great example of the area history in this building. A must visit when in this area and a welcome stop on the highway.

This small museum sits right at the entry ramp leading to the Ainsworth Hot Springs Resort. It displays the original merchandise and store appliances. Photos showing the restoration of the museum are worth a look. The gift shop is worth a visit for locally made souvenirs.
