We booked the 4-hour small boat tour for Sept. 9, 2022. Greg and Meriel were very knowledgeable about the area. It was a unique experience for us because we had never had such an intimate tour , couple to couple, before. It was very personal and they incorporated our needs and wants into the way they designed the tour. Because they are so sensitive and passionate about the area, they were able to point out places, animals and the connections that we would have missed on our own. Very memorable was the visit to a small island where we were given the time and space just to be present to the beauty and peace that surrounded us.

AMAZING! I didn't realize this was on my bucket list until we did it. My son surprised us with this kayak experience and despite the POURING rain, it couldn't have been more magical. Greg and Mirielle provided a full experience - great instruction for safety, knowledgeable facts and then the experience itself being on the water at night. It felt like an experiential Ted Talk - where you gather knowledge, some laughter and overall peacefulness. THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! Kim and Ed

Wonderful! Impeccable! Stunning!

As per previous reviews, I don’t need to tell you how amazing the tour itself is, but I will try to answer some questions.

Greg is an inspiring man, connected with nature and the world around him. It was a joy to listen to him speak. This, however, means that technological communication is not his most redeeming quality.

Have no fear, the tour is a billion percent worth it!!!! I had some questions that you might be wondering about as well.

What to wear? Dress for the weather that night with clothing that you can comfortably move in. We didn’t get very wet and were fine in running shoes.

What to bring? You really don’t need much, perhaps just a water bottle. Our phones didn’t capture anything in photos. This was a blessing because we just put all technology away and enjoyed.

Where to meet? There is a little shack labelled “Metta Eco Expereinces” located behind the pub, beside the boat launch.

What to except? The tour will start with a paddling and safety demonstration. You’ll be fit to the kayaks and given life jackets with lights. A tour guide will be with you the whole time. We had Greg who was so wonderful and knowledgeable.

Then, prepare to be amazed!!!!!!!!

I hope this helps. We couldn’t recommend this tour more.

My partner and I did a bioluminescence kayak tour with Greg and Mirielle last night. It was simply an amazing experience, and I will treasure It as being one of the highlights of our time in canada. The experience itself was breathtaking, but also, the skill and experience of our tour guides put us at ease the whole trip (we hadn’t kayaked before this). Absolutely worth every penny and more. I would give It more stars if I could! If we ever get back to the Sunshine Coast we will for sure be doing another tour! Thank you !!

I did the bioluminescence night kayak tour with my 11 year old son. Both of us are new to kayaking let alone kayaking in the dark in the sea. But must I say that both Greg and his wife Marielle made the whole experience so comfortable and safe for us. The bioluminescence experience in itself is surreal and transports you to another dimension. Both Greg and Marielle make it a soulful meditative experience of connecting with the elements. Both me and my son finished the trip feeling enriched by the whole experience. A MUST DO for anyone visiting Egmont.

We have little kayak experience, but are BC locals so not unfamiliar with the waters. We had not kayaked at night before, or been to Egmont for that matter (unless you count the 1980’s, that one time with family).

From booking right through to dry land orientation, the tour, and post tour social debriefing/ chatter – Greg and Marielle checked all of the boxes with a bold marker. We felt safe, welcomed, educated, and excited. We all felt their passion as stewards for the earth. They are such caring individuals, inspiring small groups of people to connect to nature.

Don’t forget to say hi to Marco Polo (the wonder dog) while you’re there. He’s a kind and gentle soul as well and does his canine part in greeting the humans. It’s his job for which he is handsomely compensated for in treat form before retiring for the evening.

(We will be back many times, and with the kids too next time around).

My 14 year son and I went night time kayaking with Metta Ecotours. Both Greg and Mirielle made it an unforgettable experience. Before we went out on the water, the guides made sure we weren well as a group. Although both my son and I had been ocean kayaking before, things are a bit different at night. The lesson was very useful. We were fitted in double kayaks without a rudder. This meant we had to work together to manoeuvre the boat in the dark. We learned a few strokes, in particular how to make a sharp turn close to shore (that is where the magic is happening). Once we were all ready and the sun was down, we launched our kayaks and we made our way across the inlet to the darker side. When we came to a dark spot along the shore, we turned off our safety light and Greg invited us to put our hands in the water. That first contact with the bioluminescent plankton made us humble with awe. I don’t want to give more away, just come experience the magic for yourselves. Being out on the ocean in the dark in the presence of two incredible knowledgeable guides that connect you to the elements of the night sky and the ocean in a wonderful way, is an experience we will not lightly forget.

My 17 yo daughter and I did both a boat tour and the nighttime kayak tour with Metta Ecotours and we loved both. The boat tour was a lovely way to explore the area and learn about the ecosystem.

My daughter was a little nervous about doing the kayaks at night (tbh, so was i) but Gred and Mirielle's great lesson and calm guidance made us feel confident. The experience was magical, from the quiet of the inlet, the amazing bioluminescence, the stars, and the ambience. I'm so glad we did it and that my daughter has the memory to take with her.

Greg was an amazing host. You get a quick lesson before you head out onto the water. I had never been kayaking before and I felt completely comfortable with what we learned as well as getting out onto the water. What was to follow was simply mind blowing.

We kayaked into the sunset while listening to Greg speak about the local history as well as the local bio-system. We had a clear night and the stars were out in abundance. He was always checking to make sure he had all of us in our group.

I've never experienced bioluminescence before and it's hard to put into words. We kayaked to spots where you'd stick your hand in the water and trailing glitter would follow in its wake. Seeing the paddle in the water was hypnotizing. The best was seeing the fish deep down. During this, Greg was providing his knowledge. We went to try to get to see the seals to come under us but I didn't get to see one go under the kayak--apparently they look like ghosts.

At one point he told us to just sit and take it all in. We sat in darkness, blanketed by stars and the calm of the water. I really felt connect to nature and everything he had been saying. We all got to see a shooting star that exploded and made a boom upon impact in the atmosphere. It was simply magical.

I would go every night if I could. It was the best way to kick off our get-away.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to get many of the sunset photos as I was in the back steering but my friend did.

Greg, thank you for your kindness, knowledge and making us feel welcomed--not only with you, but with the area we were in. I really felt connected to everything.
