Eco-tourism heaven!

Telegraph Cove and surrounding area is truly a gem on beautiful Vancouver Island, BC. We stayed in TC for 5 days and went kayaking and whale watching. Highlight of our trip was the Tide Rip Grizzly Bear Tour which is a must do. Highly recommend a visit to the Boom Boat Art Gallery near the TC Lodge to purchase some stunning west coast art. Also suggest taking the short ferry ride from Port McNeill to Alert Bay to visit the U'mista Cultural Center which has excellent displays of pre-colonial and modern Indigenous art and culture. The center was built on the site of a former Indian residential school.

Magical little boardwalk community, perfect starting point for kayaking adventures. Enjoy the cafes, whale museum or just strolling the boardwalk.

Wonderful place to stay for a few days especially if you are headed for Port Hardy. It's a little historic board walk village and you can stay in the little buildings in the village or there are a few other options there as well. There are also 2 campgrounds right in the area. There is only 1 resteraunt in the village but they serve excellent food for a great price. strongly recommend visiting the area

Overcharges and under delivers

Bring money. Lots of money. From $5 for 30 minutes** of parking to $4.50 for a stale cinnamon roll, $4.50 for an insipid latte, this locale disappointed us at every turn.

** To be fair, that is a flat rate so it is also $5 for a day's parking, if you can find a day's activities to entertain yourselves. There were a few free parking spots on the streets for a couple of lucky visitors.

The worst thing about the prices was barely a smile from a single person we encountered.

There is a lovely 'Telegraph Cove' welcome sign in front of the 'red office' but it was littered with rubbish (plastic coat hangers) that looked like they'd been there for a while.

There are public washrooms which were handy on a day of many highway miles. They are basic and still using a blow dryer for hands.

The only COVID protocols in place were reminders about social distancing. No one we saw working in the front line of customer services was wearing a mask.

Telegraph Cove is a pretty geographic feature, a lovely cove surrounded by dense forest, but it's a long way to drive off the highway for unfriendly, pricey service.

Our second visit to Telegraph Cove. We stayed at campsite and then walked around Telegraph Cove. Our last visit the marina was so full we had tough time moving boat into marina. This trip marina almost empty. There isn’t much open at present. If living in BC the north island is definitely a great destination with lots to do. Highly recommend
