I love how it's not like any other tour boat. Larry gave us the full experience and less talk! You could also see his passion with showing people the beauty of nature. Something as beautiful as this needs no words. You just feel. Best moment was when Larry parked the boat in the middle of all the humpback whales exhaling one after the other like an orchestra harmonizing. such a magical experience you wont get from a bigger tour boat. will definitely come back and hope to see orcas next time!

We did a one day kayak trip and it was great. We got pretty unlucky with the weather and couldn’t go paddling for too long but the guides tried to give us the best „orca“ experience they could. We saw a pod of orcas, seals and eagles! The guides were friendly and courteous, the base camp/island is nicely set up and the tour more than to wish for. Would definitely recommend!

We just returned from our 4 day trip with Discovery Expeditions. It was truly a wonderful experience. The base camp on Sophia Island is very beautiful and well run. The tents are spacious and the beds were a relief for someone who doesn't really like to camp! Beautiful chipped pathways, and tents are spaced so you can't hear or see another tent from your own. We had a view of the ocean. We saw humpbacks and orcas and lots of other wildlife. Cory took great care of us always going that extra step to make us comfortable - eg. heated rocks for our sleeping bags when it rained, set up the outdoor shower for us to use. He was also a wonderful cook and had a great laugh! Larry was amazing with my two teenagers - very encouraging. They had a great time. Wonderful experience for our staycation this year!

An incomparable 4 days on Sophia Island with Larry and Korry. We loved the camp - it's perfect. Comfortable (it is on a deserted island!) but not over the top and clearly they work very hard to keep is functional - we loved they were constantly tinkering when we were there to make improvements. A perfect place. Due to Covid, the cruise traffic was down so each night we had a campfire on the beach in near absolute silence from human traffic. Korry was an outstanding guide. Very thoughtful, patient, knowledgeable, kind, hard working and he made the trip for us. Couldn't have hoped for more. Thank you. Then the whales - plenty sighted - hanging onto kelp whilst they swam past is something we'll never forget. If you have any interest in nature this is somewhere you have to book.

We just completed an outstanding trip with Discovery Expeditions. Due to the current pandemic situation, we were blessed to have the whole island to ourselves (family of four) with the assistance of our great guide Cory (and Larry joining us off and on through the visit). The island was absolutely gorgeous and serene and offered amazing views of the resident orcas (Northern and Southern) travelling up and down the straight. We saw them daily from both the island and the kayaks. The tent and sleeping accommodations were lovely with big tents and comfortable cots (one of our tents did have a broken zipper which was a bit inconvenient, but luckily there weren't a ton of mosquitos and since we were the only family on the island, there were less concerns). We loved the candles lighting the pathways at night to the "toilets" and kitchen, and the beach fire at night just perfectly closed off the day of paddling. Cory did a great job having meals and snacks prepared through the day for the family and was attentive to our requests and needs. The meals were basic, but healthy and wholesome. Cory also did a great job entertaining the family with tours of the tidal pools and general information about the area, the wildlife and other interesting tidbits of information. The kayaking was really fun - we had good weather and spent anywhere from 3-6 hours a day in the boats (this was perfect for our family). When the whales were around, we were able to change our plans on the fly to get the best views of them. We could have used a small amount of actual basic instruction on the boats (for the adults on the first day), we got things figured out quickly. Nevertheless, Larry gave our daughters (8 and 11) a lesson in the singles on the last day which they absolutely loved and was possibly the highlight of the trip for the two of them. This was a vacation of a lifetime for us. We got exactly what we expected and more. We lucked out with weather, whales and even the pandemic contributed to our family having a private experience that others would not have had. This venue might not be a fit for everyone (you have to be in good physical shape to even navigate the shoreline and getting in and out of the boats... not to mention paddling for multiple hours), but if you are open to a wonderful island with rustic amenities and 360 degree views of nature, this is a trip for you.
