My favorite place to visit all year round
Dec. 2020
It is a beautiful park all year. There are lights in the winter. I love to visit in the spring and through the summer as the gardens change. Beautiful perennial beds (some with tags). Volunteers sell cut flower bouquets in the summer. The lodge is interesting and has a great gift shop of donated china and silver ware.

Artless and dull
Jul. 2019
I attended this festival a couple of times mainly to check out the bands.
What I witnessed every time were third rate local bands and a 'name' band headlining that were so awful I simply giggled and stayed in the bar.
When I arrived the last time, some band was knocking out a deadbeat blues song about some rock in Discovery Passage that got blown up years ago. Realising I probably happened across some amature group playing for a laugh, I moved on to the other stage.
Lo and behold, another dreadful band were attempting a blues about the same rock!
It was excruciating.
The art on offer was all 12th grade efforts of salmon, totem poles, owls, lots of tall trees . And that was it.
It's a pretty enough place but artful it ain't even by the limited standards I've come to expect locally.

Lovely home and history
Oct. 2019
Happened upon this beautifully restored old heritage home in a parklike setting. Oh to have lived in that location and time. We toured the home with a guide who knew a lot about the family history and it’s roots.

The Art Festival
Aug. 2019
We attended the Filberg Arts Festival in August. The lodge and park are beautiful to begin with. (We had been to them before) The Arts Festival was truly a bonus event to this already special place by the ocean. There were artists and artisans from all over the place, offering their eclectic wares. Plus, musicians playing in two different spots in the park. Food trucks, enough to suit most tastes were doing brisk business. The grounds are truly park like, the people working the event were all friendly and helpful. I highly recommend the lodge and park, even if one cannot make the Festival.

Beautiful park, fun petting zoo, great fine china!
Aug. 2019
The park is free to enter and a beautiful space for kids to run through, paths by lovely flowerbeds and under the grapevined trellis, and peaceful views of the waterfront. Even in August, there were still some garden beds full of colourful flowers and foliage so imagine this place in the springtime (May)! Loved the big towering trees and the flowering mimosas. My kid loved the petting zoo because you could try to pick up chickens -- a lesson in "just do it" with a firm and gentle approach. Our farm guide was helpful in educating us about all the animals on the farm -- cheap admission to get in. Goats, pigs, rabbits too. My biggest surprise was seeing all the lovely used china sets for sale in the Lodge -- definitely a treasure trove of great finds and great prices as they are donated sets of tea service, fancy silverware and the like -- with proceeds going towards running the Lodge. The Lodge is a lovely home but not open on Tues-Weds. Gift shop and teahouse too. Check for hours. Something for everyone. Definitely nice for a spring-summer visit.

What an amazing experience !
Aug. 2019
Our friend Lois (Derrick & Lois) from Comox took us here for lunch.
What an amazing experience - our guide lady was so knowledgeable and so easy going encouraging us to explore the house and various rooms.
To know that much of the woodwork and architectural detail was most likely performed by employees of Mr Filbergs was special.
Yes as a previous reviewer stated " encapsulation of a time in history" sums it up perfectly.
What a "hidden" gem

The encapsulation of a time in history
Jul. 2019
I was fortunate to stumble upon the grounds of the Filberg Estate which eventually led me to their home down by the water. On the upper level of the house I was able to saunter through their gift shop which was filled with donated treasures--many time period pieces such as porcelain tea cups and linens along with soaps and other locally crafted items. Wendy provided us with a tour of the main house and I was mesmerized by her knowledge and history of the family and the home. Every room we wandered into had the presence of the family still living there. Not once was there a stanchion keeping you from entering. You could walk around the dining room table set with Booth china, there were silverware pieces on the sideboard and family photos on the walls. The art deco washrooms were a surprising departure from the rustic ambience of the home however, Mrs. Filberg fell in love with this style while on the Queen Mary and upon returning, had it incorporated into her own home. I would have to say this was one of the best tours I have had when visiting a private residence.
