We booked a sunset cruise as a surprise for my brother’s 75th birthday and we were also joined by his wife and dear friends from North Vancouver. We had a fabulous time! Mike shared his deep knowledge of this beautiful area with us and also took great care to put one of our party, who is anxious on smaller boats, completely at ease. We would not hesitate to highly recommend this experience to visitors and locals, alike and we will be repeat customers. As we pulled into the dock my brother said it has been one of the best nights of his life!

I can not rave enough about Haida Gold Ocean Adventures. We booked a fishing excursion with them twice so far this year and those have turned out to be my two favorite days of the year.
We have four young children and this is a wonderful style of boat to take the kids out on. Mike is so friendly and helpful that even though I was a bit hesitant having the kids, they had just as much fun as my husband and myself.
Our last trip we caught a few big fish, and the excitement was incredible. Mike was so determined to get us some good bites and fish and I appreciated his efforts. He was so enthusiastic about the whole adventure it kept elevating the day beyond what I thought was possible.
I will never book fishing with anyone else on Vancouver Island. And anyone considering going out on a boat with children, this is the company to use. I have gone on a few excursions in different places with different charters, but this has been the friendliest, nicest, most kid friendly, and luckily successful fishing trip ever.

We had a spectacular day on the water with Mike! He took us around some of the local islands to watch wildlife. He was very respectful to keep a fair distance from the wildlife and also not startle them with the boat. His knowledge on local species was impressive. He then took us to a nice calm bay with great views for lunch on the boat (self provided). Mike told many stories of fishing and wildlife from his vast experience in the area. I will definitely use Haida Gold again. Mike was extremely friendly, on time, the boat was very clean and the Covid protocols were respected on the water distanced seating, hand sanitizer, masks). Mike was also always looking out and around the boat for wildlife to help us spot. Looking forward to booking with Haida Gold again.

Wonderful day out with Captain Mike and Haida Gold. The Captain is a great teacher, story teller and knows the areas to fish. The boat is really comfortable and safe. This was our first time fishing deep water and Captain Mike made it the best experience ever.. We highly and I mean very highly recommend Haida Gold out of Schooner Cove. There are accommodations right at the Marina in Schooner cove so a 6:45am start is no problem.Along with fishing we got to see porpoise’s, Orca, and seals. What a day.
If you want a great fishing experience this is the charter.

I had the amazing chance to experience an afternoon boat cruise with captain mike and friends this last thanksgiving weekend. Honestly was the highlight of the weekend. They were totally on the spot and knew all the right areas for animal watching great experience overall.
Even communicated to us that there might be a storm coming in and recommended we start earlier to avoid the weather (which we did and had the most amazing weather as it started to cloud over near the end, 100% avoided bad weather).
We paused for some cheese and picnic that we brought, and Mike’s attention to detail by using thrusters to keep the boat calm was over and above.

Great operator - Mike took my two teenage kids and I our for a morning of fishing. Very well run operations. Perfectly sized boat, fishing grounds very close to departure point (more rod time in the water). Mike is really friendly operator - knows a lot about the region, answered 500 questions from my kids. All in all a great experience - highly recommended.

We had a wonderful & memorable sunny afternoon with great friends on the Haida Gold. Captain Mike was fabulous! He was engaging and knowledgeable & pointed out wildlife as well as features of the area. The boat was clean & organized. A relaxing & enjoyable afternoon was had by all. We highly recommend Haida Gold Ocean Adventures.

My girlfriend and I went out with Mike and Kristi for a sunset cruise on a perfect Saturday evening. Little to no wind, water like a mirror reflecting the sky as it filled up with layers of color. We’re both happiest when we’re near, on, in or under water, and this hit the spot. Mike and Kristi are lovely, warm and knowledgeable people who filled us in about the local gems as we went along such as Jedediah Island and its variety of ecosystems. We paused for snacks off the shore of a little island populated with vocal sea lions. We didn’t go fishing this time but did get educated about the experience. When we can catch and keep later in the year we will definitely be back.

What a great way to spend a summer evening. We (six adults) got together a picnic supper and Captain Mike took us out for a two and a half hour cruise around the islands off Nanoose. The whole experience was very enjoyable, not least because Captain Mike himself was an interesting and very personable 'host' as well as being a competent captain. He stopped the boat just off the Ballenas Islands and we enjoyed the peace and quiet, as well as a stunning sunset, which lasted most of the homeward journey.

Haida Gold was a good experience for us - an excellent afternoon on a picnic cruise with Captain Mike. Christy had set us up in advance, so we knew how to prepare and what to bring, which was really helpful in reducing the load to carry on. There were 4 of us and we could have been more, but for four the space was good and we could relax and stretch out. We were lucky with wind and weather, and steamed out to Balenas Islands and then stopped for our picnic lunch. We were is a very still location, very calm and with the sun and calm water it was a beautiful afternoon. Mike chatted to us, gave us information when we had questions about our voyage, but gave us the space to talk when we wanted. If you do consider a cruise with Haida Gold (which I would recommend), do check the FAQ's, and ask any questions before the day, to be sure you are ready. Hard to fix something after you arrive at the dock or, even worse, are out on the water. Prep for cool and warm - it can be hard to predict, depending on wind and sun.

Mike. Kristi. I'm on Marina Way in nanoose bay and have a winery owner who's hosting a winemakers dinner saturday night as part of Parksville Uncorked. He and I normally fish trout in Kamloops and the Okanagan but he asked if there were salmon around (there are) and if there was someone who could get us out there Saturday morning for four hours. We both must be back to attend the wine events.
If youre available, we would need to know costs. Sorry for the late notice. Just two guys dreaming of dropping a line.
