A long awaited dream of ours became a reality in July 2014 when we booked our tour with the ever competent and professional Carmen Hancock, owner of 'Tour Labrador'...The package we booked was for 4 days and it included pick-up at the ferry dock in Blanc Sablanc..Our small touring group included 2 other couples who were from Australia & calgary...Once we made the decision as to which tour best suited us,we contacted Carmen Hancock by email and remained in contact with her until everything was finalized and she met us all at the Ferry dock..From our initial welcome,Carmen made us feel like part of a family and it was clear she intended to do everything to make our 4 days not only enjoyable but full of information about her homeland,Labrador..She came prepared to introduce us to the music and history of the land and what a joy that was...Our first night was spent at the Point Armour Lighthouse..There we feasted on a delightful home cook dinner and wine.As always Carmen made sure we had everything we needed to make the day unforgettable. Our small group got together around the dining table getting to know each other over delicious food and wine...Our lighthouse accommodations came equipped with wonderful comfy bunk beds and quite a number of showers etc.We awoke the following morning and helped ourselves to coffee/orange juice/cereal/toast and much more..Always on time and professional,Carmen arrived to take us on our days journey of exploration..As we drove the highway, areas of interest were brought to our attention and the history of the land unfolded..Books of interest and the music of Labrador, which we got an opportunity to hear/listen to, was shared with the group..We then arrived at our Ferry which would take us to another destination, the wonderful Battle Harbour. There we spent 2 nights and 3 days..Battle Harbour and it's history mesmerized us from the moment we set foot on it's soil..This is a magical place and we urge everyone reading this review to make the journey..Our group had a beautifully restored house with several rooms beautifully furnished and with private bathrooms...A common living room area where we would gather at the end of the day and share our thoughts over chilled bottles of wine..Our dining quarters was conveniently located a few steps away from our lodge..The staff taking care of our meals were the very best in making sure we had delicious meals (breakfast, lunch & dinner)and always wonderfully presented..The landscape of Battle Harbour is one that each of us should experience in our lifetime and the history of it's people and cod fishing is not to be missed..We were taken on guided tours of the old fishing plant which is now a museum. We had the opportunity to take a boat tour of the magnificent icebergs in the harbour and they were plentiful..Evenings we were treated to beautiful sunsets and each couple went about exploring this magical place...Unforgettable moments happened. Each day was packed with things to do/see and as always Carmen was there to make sure it all went smoothly. All too soon this dream was about to end and we had to make the journey back to the ferry for Newfoundland..Listening to the haunting music of Labrador as we journeyed, one could feel the tears wanting to flow, not from sadness but rather the joy of knowing what we had experienced over the last few days and the friendships we had made...This is a tour we highly recommend and choosing Carmen Hancock of Tour Labrador is the way to go..You will be totally taken care of from the moment she arrives to pick you up to the moment your tour ends and she bids you farewell...Money well spent and a journey you won't ever forget into a magical place called Labrador..

Carmen and Bradley, the owners of Tour Labrador, leave no details unattended to. From my first correspondence with Carmen on through our entire stay they strived to make this a vacation we will never forget.
During our early planning Carmen suggested some options that she felt would suit us and allow us to experience the history and lifestyle of Labrador. From there we worked together planning an exceptional tour.
She planned our accommodations, meals, activities and transportation for the entire stay.
Our tour included the area around Forteau, Red Bay Basque Whaling Station (National Historic Site), Point Amour Lighthouse and Max's House (tallest lighthouse in Atlantic Canada), a morning of cod fishing and the highlight....Battle Harbour.
Our first day was spent at Red Bay with the most knowledgeable tour guide, Cynthia Colosimo. Her tour was professional, relaxed, informative, fun and most of all enlightening. She knows all the Parks Canada employees and engages them in conversations regarding the history of the whaling industry, their studies, discoveries and future plans for the area. The drive from Forteau to Red Bay and back was filled with conversation about the history of the area, explanations of the land formations, fishing villages and life in Labrador.
We rose on day two quite early, by choice, to experience cod fishing. The water was calm and the fishing was exillarating. William (Brad & Carmen's son) and Pop (Brad's father) were amazing. They quickly found "their spot" and dropped in the lines. Showed us how to jig for cod and turned the lines over to us. For two "mainlanders" this was the most exciting fishing trip we had ever experienced.
Then it was off to Mary's Harbour to catch the ferry to Battle Harbour. Along the way Brad & Carmen talked with us about the land, fishing industry, whaling and the history of Labrador.
Our arrival at Battle Harbour was breathtaking. A beautiful little community set upon the shores of a small island. A Nation Historic Site preserving the history of the fishing industry. We walked the pathways used for hundreds of years by fishermen and their families. Their homes, mercantile, salt store, church and much more preserved in time. The tour of the buildings and grounds is led by people who lived on the island prior to the fishing moratorium. Explaining what life was like for them and their ancestors. We were encouraged to walk around the site at our leisure.
Our last night was spent at Point Amour Lighthouse & Max's House. Staying in the lightkeepers' house was a once in a lifetime experience. Dreaming of what life may have been like in the past. Touring the lighthouse and climbing to the top is a must.
I have or will be posting more detailed reviews on the specific sites mentioned.
I would not hesitate to book through Tour Labrador again and would encourage everyone to take advantage of the professional, knowledgeable and friendly service that Carmen provides.
Thank you Carmen for everything you did to make this trip one that we will cherish forever!!

Our vacation to Newfoundland Labrador took many months of planning, with multiple changes in itinerary. Once we learned about Battle Harbour we knew it was a place we had to visit. Imagine our dismay when we learned that because we were renting a car we were taking a risk driving the rental car along the gravel Trans Labrador Highway, a risk that most rental cars are not willing to allow.
Fortunately, we came across Tour Labrador and booked the 4 day 3 night visit. This turned out to be fortuitous in more ways than one, as our time with Tour Labrador was one of the highlights of the trip.
Our first contact, was via email and the website. All our queries were answered promptly, and courteously. I had so many questions, I was afraid I was becoming a nuisance, but all responses were friendly, and very helpful.
We walked on the ferry in St Barbe, and were met in Blanc Sablon by Carmen. She was standing outside the van waiting for us. This was an indication of things to come – Carmen was always prompt and available whenever needed.
Off we went on our Labrador adventure! Our first night was spent at Max’s House – the home of the last lighthouse keeper at Point Amour. Upstairs there are three bedrooms, a shared washroom, living room, and kitchen. Downstairs there are two bedrooms and a shared washroom. Two of the upstairs bedrooms look out onto the lighthouse, and the Strait of Belle Isle. A lovely continental breakfast was provided.
At 8:00 the next morning we hit the road on the drive to Battle Harbour. (Battle Harbour warrants a separate TripAdvisor review) Carmen’s knowledge and love of Labrador came through in every moment. Van rides were filled with music by Labrador musicians, and the hilarious BBQ comedy routine by Buddy Whathisname and the Other Fellas.
Carmen knows Labrador inside out – not only did we learn a lot of about the history of Labrador and the locales we visited, but Carmen is also well versed in the social, economic, and political issues of Labrador today. We learned so much more from our time spent with Carmen than we ever would have, had we travelled on our own.
And, Carmen is a great storyteller – make sure she tells you her “moose story”!
Attention to detail by Carmen and Tour Labrador was evident throughout the trip – from the little touches at Max’s House, to the Labrador Tea, to remembering my favourite Chicken, Brie and Partridgeberry sandwich, we never felt like just another custome; we felt like friends.
Without hesitation, we highly recommend Tour Labrador.

We had an unforgettable time in Labrador! We were a three generation family (gramma down to two 11 year olds) exploring somewhere totally beautiful. Carmen Hancock knows her stuff, She made every thing seem effortless, and was this trip planning mom's best ever idea. The kids were wowed at going to the lighthouse - climbing to the top to see the storm rage was great, We had the unexpected opportunity to see a play put on by local youth in summer theater - they taught us about the history of Point Amour lighthouse and the shipwreck there. Our tour included a visit to Red Bay World Heritage Site, wonderful meals, a tour of a jam factory, insider information that comes from pride of where you live and raise your family, unbelivable scenery and many memories. We would love to return and spend longer. and during every season.

My wife and I just returned from a trip to Newfoundland and Labrador. I would highly recommend booking any trip to Labrador through Tour Labrador. If you are lucky you will enjoy the company of a very exceptional lady, Carmen who is a co-owner of the company. She is a true Labradorian, an entrepreneur, an environmentalist, a hiker extrodanaire, a foodie and very articulate. If she does not know the answer to a question on Labrador, it is not worth knowing. However, after spending 3 days with her, I did discover a flaw - she knows nothing about bridge. Seriously, if you are planing a visit to this interesting place do it through Tour Labrador.

No apprehension to be found here, you'll find only the certainty of scrupulous management, excellent guides, and people who care that you do have a wonderful experience. I write a political Blog (just Google "Uncle Gnarley") in which I am fond of telling people the unvarnished truth, including the Premier of the Province. Uncle Gnarley makes no exceptions. Our group enjoyed four days of salmon fishing. I added hiking and kayaking to the mix (giving my friends ample opportunity to excel in "their" favourite sport. They were very pleased, too.
Point Amour is a beautiful location (with its own micro climate) and Max's House served as the perfect spot for weary outdoors men to relax. We like 'clean', good food, and people truly committed to their business. We received all of that. The best comment on the experience is to say: we'll be back.
Frankly, I can't wait!
