I must see. The drive to the lighthouse is about half paved but still good. Once there you can view Trinity and the surrounding area from a different point of view. The whole bay is gorgeous. You can also see Trinity East which is also very beautiful. To get to Trinity East you have to go to Port Rexton and there you will get another perspective of Trinity and the Lighthouse.
At the Lighthouse you can walk along a trail that tells the history both Military and Civilian of the Lighthouse Point which guards Trinity Bay.

Scenery on the way to the lighthouse is absolutely stunning; however, the road out to the lighthouse is not paved, so a bit of a rough ride. Road is very narrow. We got there late in the evening; therefore the paid portion of the tour of the site was closed so I cannot comment on that, but the scenery and views was worth the short trip out.

Yikes. Talk about a sketchy drive. Was getting too risky so we turned around. If they are going to make it a tourist spot, they need to maintain the road. There are sections where only 1 car can fit. And the ruts are hard on the suspension.

It's a fairly long drive down a badly potholed gravel road to get here but boy is it worth it. Not for the fort (charge for entry), but to watch the whales feeding. At the carpark before you get to the fort (room for around 6 cars) look outside the harbour & the whales come so close youdon't even need binoculars (although they make the sitings even better.
We drove over twice & it was almost equally good both times. Groups of up to 4 humpback or fin whales coaxing fish toward the shore then 4 mouths emerging from the water side by side. Spectacular.

We stopped by the Fort Point Light on our way from St John's to Bonavista. I chose this location based on there being a Geocache here and had not looked for reviews here on TripAdvisor.

The cache write-up mentioned that the road was of concern. While indeed much of it is unpaved and some of it narrow it was in fine shape during our visit.

After making the trek out the peninsula we finally arrived at the light and parked our car in a small lot off the roadway.

There is a small museum here where you also purchase tickets to explore the light's grounds and the military remnants. Not only was the museum well put together - they provided us with an audio guide that you use on the walk around the property. We were amazed! If you do the audio tour you should probably plan an hour - especially if you stop for fotos along the way.

Worth going out of your way for!

For a small fee, you can take a self-guided audio tour of the lighthouse grounds. Excellent view across the harbor to Trinity. Lots of interesting history here.

The self guided tour is a nice walk with some great scenery, even drive out has some impressive sights. The road to the site is a bite rough but if you take your time its not bad. The hand held recordings were a nice touch, explaining where we were and what we saw.

Had to go since we like exploring lighthouse. Neat to find out that it is still an active and manned light. Audio tour of the grounds was interesting

We visited for about an hour, using the guided interpretative tour. Pleasant setting and about 20 minute drive from Trinity itself. You see the lighthouse and the remains of the guns and stores that used to make up the military camp that guarded the entrance to Trinity Harbour.

Long drive on a dirt road, Lighthouse is not maintained. Not much to see, we just walked around and took a few pictures .
