We were so privileged to be able to attend this event. John, the gentleman who took our reservation was so kind and helpful. The evening was an absolute delight. The music was incredible and we enjoyed the engagement that the musicians Had with the audience. It was so fun to have the tea and oat cakes and visit during the intermission. I would love to come back here sometime. It will definitely be Highlight of our trip to Cape Breton.

We went twice because once is not enough to experience real Cape Breton musicians in performing fanatstic fiddle accompanied by a pianist. Both times meant engaging musicians presenting Real Cape Breton style of music accompanied by a spiel about their lives&styles as musicians. You can't go to Cape Breton wihtout experiencing the music!
The price of $15 $CAD was a bargain for this experience!

Toe tapping music performed by talented musicians. Charming and engaging with the audience. A must see in Nova Scotia. Plus tea and oats biscuits were served. A memorable experience.

Loved the Celtic sounds! The church gathering hall was small and intimate. I had to search the internet to find this "show" it certainly wasn't advertised anywhere on the streets of Baddeck or at our accomodation.
More people should be able to find these local attractions.

A wonderful time! DO NOT MISS if your are in Baddeck in the evening.
The room being wider than it is deep, the performance becomes an intimate and informal affair, with the artists able to genuinely engage with an enthusiastic, mostly CB (I believe) audience.
At halftime, tea and oat cakes are served to make sure we all get to know each other.
Lotsa good questions and thoughtful answers. You cannot hear this music and not be happy.

I was thrilled to find this gem. Our fiddler and piano player were talented and welcoming. We asked questions, they told stories. There was a break for tea and a local treat included with the admission. You’re missing out on unique cultural treat if you don’t attend !

Ceilidh is Gaelic for visit. For visitors to Cape Breton, the Baddeck Gathering Ceilidhs are a must see and do. We booked well in advance because of how popular this venue is, and were thrilled with the front row seats. Our evening was wonderful. Thanks to great Celtic music players Derrick Cameron, Melody Cameron, and Brian Doyle. They treated us to a spectacular show, entertaining and informative. We and other visitors, plus local residents and musicians alike are all very grateful to John Berk for hosting these epic shows.

Excellent traditional authentic Cape Breton music. The night we were there, Adam Young was on piano and Gillian Head on fiddle. They are so talented and engaging! There was square dancing and Gillian gave us some step dancing - so fun! Tea and cookies were served - friendly hosts, just like you expect in Nova Scotia!

Father and daughter played and sang for us that evening both were very accomplished and the audience tapped and sang along with them with ease.
It was a bit of a tight fit as the place was packed but definitely recommend it for a taste of Cape Breton.

A bit tight and warm, but friendly emcee, and refreshment server. Excellent music though the particular fiddle player that night was a bit full of himself. Poor lighting and ventilation.

Search for musiccapebreton to find the Cape Breton website with a day by day list of most musical events happening in all Cape Breton communities throughout the year. In 2018, the Baddeck Gatherings began in early July (which I think is the same every year). In June 2018, there was a ceildh every Wednesday evening at St. Ann's Gaelic College (near Baddeck). There was music most lunch hours at Juduque Cultural Centre (near Mabou). There was also a lot of music at the Red Shoe Pub in Mabou. In July there was much more music happening everywhere. During that time, we also found a Ceilidh happening a few nights each week at the Baddeck Legion (where the fabulous Rachel Davis was playing the night we were there).
