Ann Schroeder makes fine art quilts inspired by the Cape Breton landscapes, weather, and music. When you visit her seaside studio you will also find hand-dyed silk and cotton scarves, greeting cards, collages, bookmarks, and fabric for quiltmakers. She'll be glad to answer your questions and tell you about her favourite places to hike or listen to local music. More than 100 people of all ages have taken her Fabric Dyeing by the Sea one-day or half-day workshops. No experience is necessary and you don't have to be "artistic," just ready to have fun playing with colour and patterns.

Finding her studio was quite a trip; near the 'end' of the world as ocean (St Lawrence Bay) surrounds and belongs in a movie! Her fine arts (incl. quilts, scarfs, etc.) just lovely.

We visited Anne's studio on a recent visit. She is tucked away amongst the hills with a beautiful view. Her quilts were incredibly beautiful as were her hand-painted scarves. Delightful talented person.

The 3 of us did the full day quilting workshop and had a great day. Learned lots and created beautiful fabric for future quilts. Glad we are staying the night in Mabou too tired to drive far. Anne is very knowledgeable and a patience teacher. We are all looking forward to returning in 2014 to learn more

I was looking for something to do while my husband attended a conference on Cape Breton Island. I found information on a fabric dying workshop by the sea and thought it could be fun even though I think dying fabric is messy. It was a lot more fun than I expected and I got to do this overlooking the sea... More

I visited Ann's studio to learn a bit about fabric dyeing and her fabulous quilts, scarves, and cards. Ann is extremely talented and an outstanding fiber artist. She eagerly answered questions, and explained the processes she uses to dye and sew her creations. She made my husband and I feel very comfortable, and generously allowed us to stay as long... More
