Interesting to see such a lovely museum depicting local history of the area of Mahone Bay, although it is a small sleepy town. Loved the museum and artefacts - spent about 45 minutes - parked in the very small parking lot in the back of the building.

Mahone Bay in general is a must visit if you are in Nova Scotia. It's an adorable little town, with a constant stream of activities - my parents and brothers all live here (I live in California). The museum has local history, and shows you about the families that formed it (many of the names which still live there) and other cute artifacts. Definitely go in, it doesn't take long and it helps to keep places like this alive and part of the community.

A must stop if you’re exploring Main Street Mahone Bay! This beautiful museum has some of the best displays of local history, as well as, fun activities for children to learn and be creative. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely check it out!!!

We were lucky to be taken round by Anne, an artist and local historian, who told us about many aspects of this historic area. Do go, it is free entry and well worth the time we had there.

We were interested in the history of Mahone Bay because it’s such a charming little town so we went into the museum. The young man who gave us the history was informative and knowledgeable and obviously was interested in and enjoyed the subject. He answered all of our questions and I felt that I really understood how the town came to be. There are very few actual “relics” from the history but our guide made it worth the time. I would recommend it to anyone interested in how Mahone Bay was founded.

I visited this museum in early July. The staff are friendly and very knowledgeable. I particularly enjoyed the oral history video collection and the exhibit regarding the Three Churches. It was all fantastic though. I love the building it’s in too.

This little museum is a must do. My ten year old loved the scavenger hunt. My 14 year old liked drawing a card and learning about a specific historical figure throughout the museum. There is something for everyone here.

First of all Mahone Bay is a lovely place to spend time. The young ladies at the Museum were very knowledgeable and full of interesting facts about the area. The artifacts in the museum told of the history of the families who had lived there and who had founded many of the shipbuilding and other businesses in the surrounding vicinity. Well worth a visit.

I stopped in a day or two after the Scarecrow Festival in late Sept. The place is small but has some great exhibits on the early history when the original European settlers expanded out of Lunenburg into the surrounding areas in 1754. It was slow day and I spent most of my time talking to the friendly staff you who shared their knowledge. It is a great way to break up the trip to Lunenburg. The town is smaller but equally picturesque as Lunenburg. A Museum stop is a pleasant way to add to a stroll through the shops and restaurants and connect the town to it beginning.

If you have some extra time in Mahone Bay, you should check out the museum. It's clear that the curators have put a lot of love into the exhibits, and you learn a fair bit about the history of Mahone Bay - early settlement, etc. While free, I'd suggest making a donation to this lovely, volunteer-run museum so that they can keep it going for years to come. Nice place to visit for an hour or so.
