Have been there for large and small events. Friendly staff, excellent service, and great food. If you have the chance... go.

This was originally the home of Frank Sobey. He and his wife collected paintings by Canadian artists and they are displayed throughout the house which makes it a very intimate experience. The Group of Seven, Tom Thompson, Cornelius Krieghoff and more - wonderful paintings I had only seen before in books. We had made an appointment and were given a wonderful, informative tour - very relaxed and unrushed, questions welcomed - a lovely hour and a half. And there's no charge!

This house has a good-sized and varied collection, and an informative and friendly tour to help you better understand what you are seeing. It's comfortable and light, and generally a great way to spend an hour or two.

We found this Canadian treasure on our way to Cape Breton for Celtic Colours. Although they only give public tours on Wednesdays, the custodians, Pamela and Harvey, were more than willing to give us our own personal tour on a Tuesday, and with only one day's notice. The home has an amazing collection of original Canadian art displayed throughout. Pamela was very knowledgeable and receptive to our questions. We spent a very good hour and a half enjoying this Canadian treasure!

We visited on a whim, they offer a few tours on Wednesdays. The home, once owned by Frank Sobey and his wife Irene, is filled with art including several Group of Seven and Emily Carr paintings. Also a fantastic home, which you get to see every room as well. Our tour guide was friendly, although didn't seem very knowledgeable about the family or art work and had to read off a script throughout the tour. She was a great person to talk to, just seemed to take away from the tour when she had to read the page first before talking about the paintings. Refreshments were served afterward with (of course) some treats from Sobeys.

This art exhibit is housed in the former home of Frank H Sobey. It is the largest private collection of the famed Group of Seven.

I was more than delighted to have the opportunity to visit this house with its wonderful collection of Canadian art. Still a private house with immaculate gardens, expect a very warm welcome with an extremely informative guided tour. The house and it's collection are little known to many, something that needs to be rectified. Go!

The words "Proudly Canadian" can barely begin to describe how I felt when on a private tour of Crombie House with my daughter and my two grandsons who live in the area. Being able to access the largest collection of Canadian painting in the world in one location is indeed unique. Guided by Pamela, we were ushered from room to room where so many of the art treasures of Canada are housed. Pamela skillfully related so many wonderful details and stories that made each painting come alive. Her knowledge of the artists and their lives in our country served to make each one a figure in Canadian history. As a senior, this visit helped me recall my many visits to other venues displaying Canadian paintings. The fact that so many of the paintings have never been displayed outside this venue makes the entire collection truly special. Every Canadian should have the opportunity for one visit in their lifetime. I plan to re-visit this venue on returns to Nova Scotia to visit my family and take advantage of the collection and the FREE ADMISSION.

My husband and I booked a private tour and are very appreciative of the opportunity to visit this beautiful gallery. Our host Pamela was very welcoming and well informed of the collection and details of the various artists. Even though we have little experience with art history Pamela made it a very interesting visit and I learned so much. Our thanks to the Sobey family who share this with the wider community. If you are able to arrange a visit we highly recommend it, details are on their website.
