We went in June so the lighthouse was not open, but still the area is nice and quiet. The only caveat is that it seems like a long drive but it was nice at the end. There is no chance to miss it (if you feel lost); the road ends there!

We were off season so didn't have access to the house. A better drive to get a view is to go to the East Bluff lookout which provides a terrific view of the whole of Gore Bay.

Quaint, but not much to see. View is nice over the lake. Did not see a trail or something else to do

It was a wild and windy day when we drove out to the lighthouse. Not far from the town centre of Gore Bay and unfortunately not open, but a pretty spot nonetheless. Took some photos and walked a bit along the shore, enjoying the exhilarating combo of wind and waves. Found a couple of fossils too.

Great place to visit to learn of the importance of these lighthouses that are a fixture of the past on Manitoulin Island

From the water's edge, you can hardly see the lighthouse because the trees are all grown up in front of it.

This is a good example of the Manitoulin lights - is actually still the family retreat for the Fletcher family. Standing at the end of Light house Road, there's a useful sign outlining the history of the light - which still guides those who snowmobile on the winter ice on the Channel

We were very lucky when we arrived and a worker had opened up for us and we had a look around. Has been closed for 5 years but after some Reno’s is being opened again

This lighthouse is nestled on the North Channel at the end of Lakeshore Road hidden from the hustle and bustle of Gore Bay, which is a good thing because its isolation is part of its charm. What makes the Janet Head Lighthouse cool is how it is surrounded by forest and offers respite for weary travelers who have traveled far. There is a picnic table there to have your packed lunch, and waterfront where you can sit and enjoy the unobstructed view of the robust North Channel and not be bothered by hiker or car. And the lighthouse is easy to get to and close to town. Maybe a good ten-minute walk from the lighthouse into town you pass by the local brewery where you can sit down on the patio and have a pint, or have a bite at Buouy's Restaurant where you can gobble down a pizza and maybe catch a guitarist playing on the patio beside the Gore Bay Marina.
The lighthouse itself is cool too. Exploring the inside of the lighthouse, one is brought back to an earlier time when boat traffic on the North Channel was guided by the light and the lighthouse keeper lived inside the complex. It is a pretty classic lighthouse, still as it was when it was built. A seasoned traveler will not be disappointed with its architecture and secluded natural ambiance where they can find peace and quiet and get in tune with the slow pace of nature and the birds overhead.
