This was our first trip to PEI since COVID began. We got here only one week after the Atlantic Bubble opened up, so nothing was very busy. It was great to get back to Shining Waters. At this stage, about 75% of the park is open to the public, but that may change as the summer goes on. There were a couple of attractions that we thought could have been open like the walking trail and the pirate ship, but it’s understandable that most indoor attractions were closed for now.
Bear in mind that right now the canteen with burgers and hot dogs is closed as well, so make sure to bring food with you.
The staff were helpful and cheery. The park is only open on certain days but we were told that as summer goes on they will likely add more days per week. You also need to have booked ahead of time to go there. The water park was fully open and the kids always enjoy themselves.
There were no lineups for anything. There were a perfect amount of people compared to other years when everything was full to capacity. The time to go is now!
Overall, some attractions looked like they’ll be closed for all of this season, but as the summer progresses, they may open some.

We had a great day. The slides were fun but do be prepared to wait if you want to go on a tube slide as you have to get in line for a tube and then get in line for the slide. The roller coaster is quite tame and a decent introduction to coasters for young kids. The kiddo also loved the kids splash park area. We spent the whole day at the park from one to close. We did find that a number of things didn't necessarily work properly. The token machine for the lockers wasn't giving tokens but they sent someone over right away and they gave me one. There's also meant to be some kind of Quest activity on some side trails but this doesn't seem maintained at all so we didn't bother with it after a couple of stations didn't work. Overall a really fun day but I wouldn't recommend spending any time on the small side things.

Manage expectations. This is not
Marine World.
This is a well spaced out park. Only 2 places to eat, one at the beginning and one near the end. The one near the end just had a Beavertails and a place that only served hotdogs and slush puppies.
This is not just a water park. There is a fun, little splash park at the beginning. Then the 4 big water slides. Then a pool. That’s it for water.
They have a variety of other things. Fair rides, haunted house (not scary), roller coaster (not scary either) playground, funny mirrors and a house of mirrors, castle (only the outside) small petting zoo, etc.
Didn’t seem like a lot but we managed to spend almost 5 hours there with a 7 & 4.5 year old. It was busy but not packed at all.

This place is awesome. Don't let those naysayers discourage you. You get your moneys worth on this place. We took children of the following ages, 13, 12, 7, and 5. The 13 and 12 year old lasted 5 hours of fun, and the 7 and 5 year old lasted open to close. Yes some attractions were closed and some needed replacement, it's a pandemic, even if they ordered it, it would be on back order. The staff were so helpful and polite, we couldn't get over their politeness. When we saw staffs changing posts from ride to ride, they could be seen picking up any trash they came across. The place is spotless. We will definitely be back.

This place was what my kids (6 & 3) wanted to do all week, so we gave in. I found the passes to be pretty expensive ($35) for a park that is staffed by preteens and looking a little neglected or out of order. We didn’t do the water park, and we still had lots to look at. Carnival style rides were good for young kids, and there wasn’t any wait. Just a bizarre place to be, with the wacky little stops that cost a fortune and bored employees

Fun small water park. Many of the rides were under construction. The line up just to get a tube for the water slide gets very long. So be prepared to wait 45 mins at least. Just for one slide. There has to be a better system. Glad we went, but probably would not return.

Thank you for visiting and taking the time to make a review. I'm happy to hear that you were glad you went, but disappointed that you would not return. This beautiful weather we have been experiencing has brought a lot of guests to the park looking to cool down on the waterslides, and sometimes that does mean waiting in a lineup. There should have only been one ride that was down for maintenance, unfortunately to the mechanical nature of the rides, unplanned maintenance does sometimes occur. I hope you are able to return another time and enjoy the park the way it was meant to be enjoyed.

I will write this from my grandkids point of view as my visit was spent watching them enjoy themselves. The park has plenty of attractions and activities for kids. The water slides and pools were well kept and monitored and the rides were fun. I appreciated the fact that once you paid to get in, there were no extra fees for rides. Concessions were available and not too expensive.

Every fun park reaches its peak eventually, and this park is past its peak. While the water slides are still the main attraction, there really is zero water park competition in PEI and that’s so why people still come here. Many of the other features and amenities are becoming sorely neglected. It became quite obvious that this park is severely understaffed and should limit its amenities and guest numbers as a result or close its doors. I realize many businesses are struggling post COVID, but the lack of staff, lack of enthusiasm by most staff, lack of amenities (couldn’t find a working vending machine anywhere in the park), and lack of maintenance of almost everything is a serious game changer. Go somewhere else unless you just want to go on water slides and wait in lines for understaffed amenities.

We went on a cold day with rain looming so we were able to do quite a bit without waiting which was nice. Having the mix of water park and rides is a nice variety which helps kids stay engaged. A lot of the attractions have seen better days or were only partially operational. My partner and I were genuinely shocked at how unhappy and disengaged all the employees were throughout the day. They barely made eye contact, never spoke to us. We’d approach rides or attractions and and have to ask employees if we could get on because they wouldn’t really acknowledge us. We had a good day but it was just a very odd vibe to feel like the employees at the fun park were all so miserable.

I wouldn’t say the bang for the buck is great here anymore. They certainly have room for growth and to add more water slides. Lines get long in the late morning and afternoon. More attractions and perhaps revamping of the older ones would make for an improved experience.

Is the park large enough to warrant bringing a stroller for a 3 and 5-year-old?
Written August 5, 2018
Shining Waters is spread out over 30 acres, so if you have young children that would use a stroller or a wagon, feel free to bring it along!

Hi, I would like to know if there are any nice places to stay around this water park?
Written July 19, 2015
Carol, We are located quite centrally in Cavendish and there are many high quality accommodations within walking distance to the park. Many even offer packages that include admission to the parks. You can view a list of our packaging partners on our website under 'Plan Your Visit' Sorry I can't link directly here.
All the best,
Adam
