Summer fun in COVID times
Jul. 2021
This was our first trip to PEI since COVID began. We got here only one week after the Atlantic Bubble opened up, so nothing was very busy. It was great to get back to Shining Waters. At this stage, about 75% of the park is open to the public, but that may change as the summer goes on. There were a couple of attractions that we thought could have been open like the walking trail and the pirate ship, but it’s understandable that most indoor attractions were closed for now.

Bear in mind that right now the canteen with burgers and hot dogs is closed as well, so make sure to bring food with you.

The staff were helpful and cheery. The park is only open on certain days but we were told that as summer goes on they will likely add more days per week. You also need to have booked ahead of time to go there. The water park was fully open and the kids always enjoy themselves.

There were no lineups for anything. There were a perfect amount of people compared to other years when everything was full to capacity. The time to go is now!

Overall, some attractions looked like they’ll be closed for all of this season, but as the summer progresses, they may open some.

Great full day with kids.

The rides are limited but no lineups. Not much selection for food at the park, the Subway advertised is not on site and has to be ordered from an app and is delivered at specific times...

Great family day

My sons, aged 10 & 12, had a great time! Yes, the lines for the tubes and water slides are long, but you need to expect that. Given Covid and the restrictions to let them open, I think they have done a great job! $20 per person for a day pass (10am-6pm) is very budget friendly. You can bring your own food which is fantastic as well.

2 is too young
Aug. 2020 • Family
Shining waters was lovely and the kids had a good time. I must say I was a bit disappointed that the young staff wasn’t better trained to have a bit more compassion during these difficult times. My son is 2. We live in Nova Scotia masks are mandatory so we had one and he wears it sometimes but to not let his ride the dry rides when he doesn’t want to wear a mask is ridiculous. I see the season for the mask rule and we comply when we can but he’s 2 end of discussion. If he rips it off because he doesn’t understand Or cries that he doesn’t want to put it on it that moment. I should not have to argue with a teenager to let him ride the rides. My 6 year old niece is old enough to understand and we had no issues. A 2 year old with no understanding of what’s going on who complies more then not should be exempt from this rule and they should take the two minutes to sanitize his spot after the ride rather then argue that he won’t be allowed to ride. 2 is too young.

Great family day
Aug. 2019
Family visit in summer of 2019, and we had a great day.
Although not inexpensive, we have nothing like this where we live, and our kids ( 3 and 5) had a blast.
Our three year old didn’t meet the requirement to go on the bigger slides which he would have loved, but he still had fun in the smaller kids area.

A one time visit for us.

This park wasn’t as well organized as Sandspit was. The lineups for the water slide made it unenjoyable, and the other attractions didn’t really meet expectations.

Not recommended for older kids
Aug. 2019 • Family
Seems like there is a lot of potential and open space here that could add some more rides or attractions for older kids but it seems the only thing here for teens is the water slides.

There would be a greater benefit if a large wave pool or other attraction was added to provide a more comprehensive water park or add some rides or older kids.

I would recommend for younger kids but the park could definitely use some upgrades.

Lots of fun
Aug. 2019 • Family
We were pleasantly surprised with this place. I kind of expected it to have that cheap, hollow, disappointing feeling that typically accompanies places like this but it mostly felt wholesome, relaxing, and just the right amount of thrilling for younger kids. My four year old really enjoyed every single ride (perfect roller coaster for younger kids!), paddle boating, the playground, mirror maze, and the stuff in the discovery woods. I enjoyed it all too! We didn’t do the code game thing as it seemed a bit old for her but we enjoyed the tipsy turvy house and rocket ship. The storybook land wasn’t too exciting compared to the rest - it’s just statues and a witch cave that was too scary for my kid. She also didn’t seem to enjoy the water park as much as I expected but it seemed fine to me. There were chairs and it was nice to be able to sit close with my baby and watch. Nice to have lots of shaded picnic areas as well! Washrooms were pretty clean. Thanks for a fun day!

I'm glad you enjoyed your day at Shining Waters, and found it to be wholesome, relaxing and thrilling at the same time. The park is divided into six main areas that feature different types of activities for the type of experience you or your family is in the mood for, for example, if you want a piratey adventure, visit the Buccaneer Bay, or take it slow by wandering through the shaded pathways of Storybook Land. There is lots of fun attractions for a four year old at Shining Waters, and still lots of seating and shaded areas to take advantage of when it's time to slow down. I hope you get to visit us again in the future!

A sad memory.
Aug. 2019 • Family
I respect them trying to keep Cavendish and former Rainbow Valley alive but this place was lacking excitement. To be honest I liked the old amusements the best and it brought back childhood memories. We stayed for 3 hours and did most all activities. The pool and slides I would think is popular with the locals and tourists staying in the area. Overall, I wouldn’t travel from Charlottetown to come here. Cavendish in general was lacking. Sorry.

Needs updating
Aug. 2019 • Family
We recently visited the park Aug.11
My husband and I , two teen girls.
It’s never been a disappointment due to the water slides . However we really noticed this year once you leave the water slide area it needs some work. The majority of the older sections of the park are in dire need of repairs / updating. The newer additions are great and it’s unfortunate they don’t seem to be making any upgrades or repairs . $90 is a lot but I worth it at this location for sure with some much needed repairs & updating

Thank you for your feedback, and I'm sorry you found this visit to be disappointing. We have been making updates every year, some years get a new ride, other years we focus on maintenance and upgrades. For instance, this year we replaced the entire deck on the front of the change rooms, completely redid the tube queue, reshingled and repainted a number of the buildings in the barnyard. We also did a significant renovation to the kiddie pool to replace the floor and to upgrade the filtration infrastructure. This summer we continue to work by replacing the wooden tractor and truck in the barnyard, the wooden train in the woods, and we are replacing the entire floating bridge in the Greatest Adventure area. Next year we will continue with upgrades and more maintenance. We are committed to keeping the park clean and safe, and I hope the next time you visit us you will see the efforts and investments that have been made.
