Wonderful tour!
Oct. 2020
I very much enjoyed my visit to Green Gables. I went in the off season so I paid for a private tour and my guide (Kyle) was very knowledgeable and friendly. I got a very thorough tour of the new exhibit as well as through the house. He was open to answering any questions I had and he even took some photos for me outside of the home as I was a solo traveler. The walking trails around the home were just beautiful. It definitely helped that it was the off season so it was very quiet and also visiting in the autumn is magical.

Memorable and Enjoyable Site for Everyone
Oct. 2019
During our shore excursion from the “10-Day Canada and New England” cruise aboard Caribbean Princess ship, we visited the Green Gables located at Cavendish in the Prince Edward Island National Park. Memorialized by Lucy Maud Montgomery’s “Anne of Green Gables” books, this site has drawn countless visitors from all over the world, especially from Japan. Since Anne of Green Gables has been required reading in Japan’s public schools, thousands of Japanese fans of the novels came here every year by plane or ship. Japanese Princess Takamado, who came to Prince Edward Island in 2019 to celebrate 90th anniversary of the diplomatic relationship between Canada and Japan, was an avid reader of Montgomery’s novels and also was the Lucy Maud Montgomery Institute’s International Patron. After about 50 minutes of bus ride from the Charlottetown port, we arrived at the Green Gables site. The Green Gables and its surroundings were well preserved and well presented enough to inspire the fans of the novels. Inside the house, the beds and furniture were set up as if the novels’ characters just went out to the garden for a stroll. The exhibits were on display on the two floors of the house. Upon exiting the house, we walked toward the Haunted Wood Trail across the garden, and enjoyed charming views of the wood in colorful foliage. On the way out, we had delicious ice cream at Cordial Café before reaching the gift shop area. We had an enjoyable and heartwarming experience visiting this site.

Great, but there was construction so not much to see
Aug. 2020 • Family
Lovely place to visit if you are a fan of Anne of Green Gables, but when we visited, there was alot of construction so there was not much to see. The walking trails were open, but it was too hot to walk young children around. The entrance building had a nice display, including a wall of Anne of Green Gables books and a LEGO Anne house.

Stop by if you are a fan for sure.

A book lovers dream
Jun. 2019 • Couples
This is a must see if you visit PEI and are a book lover. It was everything I could have hoped for. Eat before you go or pack a lunch so that you can explore the property for a few hours. The weather was perfect when we went. It’s very inexpensive to go and the Green Gables house is adorable, but walking down Lover’s Lane and exploring the Haunted Wood makes you feel like you are reliving Anne’s adventures. I even brought a copy of Anne of Avonlea with me so I could get a picture with it there. And the gift shop has every Anne thing you could ever want.

It’s a must stop when visiting PEI. Anne of green gables comes to life when you see her home and places she wrote about.

PEI = Anne of Green Gables
Sep. 2019
It seems like everywhere you went around PEI, there was mention of Anne of Green Gables. Green Gables is the name of a 19th-century farm in Cavendish, Prince Edward Island, and is one of the most notable literary landmarks in Canada. The Green Gables farm and its surroundings are the setting for the popular Anne of Green Gables novels by Lucy Maud Montgomery. Even though we aren't too familiar with the Green Gables backstory, it didn't seem possible to visit PEI without seeing this house.

We arrived with about 20 minutes to spare before closing, which seemed like enough time to tour through the old house. Then I walked past a sign for a BeaverTail and absolutely had to have one. Cue ensuing panic as BeaverTails are made to order, and precious minutes were ticking by. Finally, armed with a fresh BeaverTail, we had about 5 minutes remaining to tour the house. Thank goodness we're fast tourists.

The Green Gables farm was owned by the MacNeill family, who were cousins of author Lucy Maud Montgomery. The farm's name is derived from the rich dark green paint of the gables on the farmhouse. Montgomery visited the farm as a young girl and based the location of her best-selling Anne series of books on the Green Gables farm. The international acclaim of Montgomery's novels made Cavendish into a popular tourist destination in the province beginning in the early 20th century.

Delightful entry into the world of Anne with an E
Jul. 2019
We had a great time visiting the area that inspired the Anne of Green Gables stories. The tour guide tells you the basic and then you can walk through the house and the grounds.
There is a nice modern museum area that tells the history of the author Lucy Maud Montgomery, who was inspired to right her beloved series by this beautiful area.where she spent time as a child.
Well worth a visit. In July it was beautiful.

Great time. Wonderful place to bring the kids. My 9 and 13 year old kids had a very nice day there even though they were not huge Green Gables fans. Visit on a non-rainy day.

Worth a visit

I was so excited to visit here . I don’t know why but it wasn’t as magical as I was expecting. It was still a good visit and I’m glad I went.
