    Must see visit for PEI
Beautiful setting inside the historical house and outside on the grounds and pathways thru the woods. The experience was made even more pleasurable by the excellent weather. This is a must see visit for PEI.

    Heart warming stop in PEI
Literature lovers, anyone who read Anne of Green Gables or grew up watching the movie must stop here. Take a stroll down “Lovers Lane” or through the “Haunted Wood” after going through the beautiful tribute to LM Montgomery found in the entrance building. The Green Gables home is quaint and captures what Anne’s home may have looked like. We arrived early in the morning and avoided any crowds. It was a highlight of our trip to PEI.

Must see if you're an Anne fan
Since this is the house LM Montgomery used as inspiration for the Cuthbert home, I simply had to see it. The information in the first building was quite interesting, and the gift shop was appreciated. My daughter and I hiked the Haunted Woods trail, but it was a challenge for this 68-year-old on a hot, humid day. It was longer than we anticipated, so visitors should be aware. That said, it was a beautiful attraction, and I would recommend it for all Anne fans.

    Fun!
I loved the Anne of Green Gables books and this museum didn’t disappoint. In addition to seeing the Green Gables farmhouse (which belonged to a cousin of the author), visitors can walk two short trails. In the visitor center, we learned about LM Montgomery and I particularly enjoyed seeing all the book covers in different languages. Even if you’ve never read the Anne books, it’s an interesting spot to learn about how farmers lived in PEI. There’s also a small cafe.

Even if Your Name is Not Anne :-)
If you have read the books or seen the movies this is a really fun and educational way to connect with the stories and the author. There is a really well done museum that you start in and then you walk over to the house. There are other trails around the property too. If you are visiting PEI you need to have this on your list of stops.

    Visiting with teens
We arrived early to beat the crowds, which I would highly recommend. We also purchased the extended pass so we could visit the site where LM Montgomery grew up. The walk through the Haunted Woods, across the park to the site was lovely and informative. We stopped on the way back to visit the gravesite, and then we wandered down Lovers Lane. Our teenage daughter enjoyed it. Our teenage son less-so, but the activity and constant moving helped.

    Awe inspiring Author
Absolutely loved this whole experience. Went because my friend was such a fan of the books but after the visit I’m a fan now as well. Even bought myself a copy of Anne of Green Gables. You could feel Anne in every room and in the dark wood. LM Montgomerary was an incredible author. Go early to beat the coach tours.

    A lovely experience
It is beautifully set out and maintained museum. The exhibition sets the context for LM Montgomery's stories before going out to see the building which served as the setting for the "Anne" books. There is lots to see and do and even if you have not read the books there are a lot of things of interest to see - who knows you may become a 'fan'. A lovely experience and time well spent.

A Few Tips About the Famous Green Gables
This famous homestead is located about 30 miles from Charlottetown. Travelers can incorporate seeing several beaches and lighthouses of PEI National Park. A family pass for one day is about CA$15. We went on a blustery day and it was still beautiful. Green Gables is actually owned by the Park Canada since 1936. The house became famous as it was the setting for Lucy Maud Montgomery’s novels. It was actually owned by one of her cousins. The route signs are easy to notice as they are of a “green house.” Nearly CA$10 million was used to develop the interpretive center and refurbish the house in 2017. The nominal entry cost is well worth it as all the exhibits are thoughtfully done. The kids may enjoy playing with Lego's by the Green House. I am not one that likes to read off of photographs—but her life does capture you. There is souvenir shop, small café, barn and the famous green house where you can walk through. In 1985, Park Canada tried to make the house as original as possible to the book, “Anne of Green Gables.” Life in the 19th century was definitely not easy. Who takes out the chamber pot? If you have mobility problems, getting to the top of the second floor of Green Gables home will be a problem. We loved taking the nearly the one-mile trail close to the house called “Haunted Woods.” The nearby golf course tried to incorporate Green Gables but the community protested back in 1938. There are two other trails: Lovers’ Lane and Balsam Hollow. In the village of Cavendish (close by), Lucy is buried with her husband Rev. Ewen Macdonald. Lucy died in 1942, just shy of her 68th birthday. You can’t miss the cemetery as there is a permanent banner across the entrance stating, “Resting Place of L.M. Montgomery.” If you found this review to be helpful in any way, please press “Thumbs-up” to let me know.

Excellent experience, especially if you have read the first book.
This site renders a faithful depiction of the home of the fictional character Anne of Green Gables. It is a beautiful property, and contains the green-gabled home, Lover's Lane, and the Haunted Woods. The interior of the home is designed to reflect the look of the home indicated in the book. There is a character impersonator on-site. She did a great job of reflecting the personality of Anne. There is a nice gift shop on site. I bought the 2nd and third books in the series there. An essential stop in PEI.

We visited here when in prince Edward Island with our cruise ship. It was very interesting and well worth the trip. The house itself was good to see with lots of old furniture and utensils. We also did the woodland walk.

It has been 10 years since I was here. They now have a large visitor center with a snack shop, exhibits and gift shop. The cost to get in is reasonable and they have a senior discount. The house doesn’t take long to go through and is quaint. The story setting was based on this house of the author’s relatives. I am happy to see that the path through the haunted woods is still there.

I visited this national park in November, and unfortunately, this house was not open to the public. However, I got to walk around the grounds and I enjoyed the hikes. I got many pictures, and a national park ranger was there to answer my questions. There was also a visitors center, but it was closed during my time of visit.

Unfortunately the day we visited it was pouring down with rain. We toured the main museum, about the life and history and L.M. Montgomery, but did not tour the grounds due to the weather. The museum is nicely done with pictures and information about the author's childhood and life. There is a big gift shop too. Too bad the weather wasn't nicer.

We liked the trails and the info boards were great info. Really need to read the book to get the most out of the site. The highlight for us was a fan dressed as Anne taking pics from the parking lot. One of my favourite shots I took on a month long trip in the Maritimes.

Beautiful place, friendly staff and fair price for the experience. Would recommend to anyone visiting PEI. The walk in the woods is very pleasant and makes the experience even more special.

Do not waste your time. Disappointing does not describe this site. Although the staff are friendly, as one would expect from Parks Canada, the cost was not worth the visit. Understandably as we went in September, Anne was in school, but a welcome from Mathieu or Marilla would have been nice. (Just saying, so as to put yourself in the mindset of the author). The house is nice, but the walk through takes about 5 minutes and all rooms are corded off. Wow, we got to see Mathieu's hat, vest and jacket laid out on a bed, and of course a dress with puffy sleeves hung in a corner of another room. Who could forget the raspberry cordial in the pantry.
The walk through the woods, was just that. A walk. People we met along the path were just as disappointed as us.

Understandably Lucy Maud Montgomery used this site as her inspiration for Anne of Green Gables. Sadly, it lacks animation to bring that inspiration to life.

We were there on a beautiful day midweek. Not too crowded. My granddaughter was dressed as Anne and got asked for her picture several times. She was flattered.
She loved the house, as did I as a lover of functional home design. Quite efficient. Grounds and the walks into the woods were wonderful.

Green Gables is a Heritage Site of Lucy Montgomery. You could wander into the home of Lucy Montgomery with its memories filled rooms. There is a cultural centre dedicated to the life of Lucy and her road to becoming the author of Canada's most loved fictional character, Anne of Green Gables. Entrance fee applies.

Tip - Combine this with a visit to Prince Edward Island National Park.

Visited the Green Gables which is part of the PEI National Park system. Very good displays and the house was interesting. You can also take a walk into the Haunted Forest.
