- rlmptlLloydminster, Canada1,273 contributionsgreat beautiful long scenic beachthis was a lovely wide and long beach with red dunes. Damage from the last hurricane was evident. it was very windy and cool that day with crashing waves so we admired it from the look out. this beach deserves a visit for sure ! we went especially as it was featured on Road to AvonleaVisited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten July 3, 2024
- BeeslyToronto, Canada16 contributionsA Must See!Great place to visit. Beautiful sandy beach. Amazing views with lots of sand and clean water. No shaded areas to sit. Bring your own umbrellas, and don’t forget your sunglasses! Has showers on boardwalk to rinse off. Has ice cream shop on boardwalk. Can get busy. $$ Pay to enter.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten July 24, 2024
- TrailTrekker15Tallahassee, Florida5,532 contributionsLovely Beach and Clear WatersWe spent some time on Cavendish Beach. It was very busy, but that was easy to understand considering it was a sunny day on such a beautiful beach. The water temperatures were about 20C (approx. 70F). The sand was soft and red which was beautiful. Nearby we could see the cliffs over the beach. While not the best walking beach, this is a great spot to sunbathe and swim.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten July 26, 2024
- converge77Surrey, Canada325 contributionsEven in the rain, it is worth itWe caught the tail end of Hurricane Debby so there was lots of rain, but we were limited on time, so we went out anyway. Beautiful beach and the water was bath tub warm. Hardly a soul in sight so we had a beautful long walk.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten August 15, 2024
- SeamusOakville, Canada1,736 contributionsWorld Class BeachThis national park place should rate as one of the top beaches in the world. It can be busy only at the single entrance to the supervised swimming area on a hot day like today, but you can spread out to solitude over its nearly 10 km length. The beach is massively wide even at high tide and the sand is pristine, fine-grained and excellent for walking along the massive dunes, offering stark contrast to the red shades closer to the water. You can walk quite a ways into the warm waves and meet several sand bars before your cooling dip. It is wild, with no amenities away from the timid tourists at the entry area. Simply gorgeous. As an alternative on the island, try Basin Head north of Souris (see my review).Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten August 24, 2024
- Laurie CCanada70 contributionsBeautiful, Pristine Beach in National ParkOne of the best beaches in the world! Thanks to its location within a national park, it has been left in its natural state. You won’t find merry-go-rounds or high rise hotels here, thank goodness. Instead, you will find a surprising mixture of sand dunes and red cliffs. There is a supervised area with lifeguards and a long stretch of beach where you can easily claim a spot for yourself away from the crowds. Amenities available: cantine, change rooms, showers, hiking trails, ample parking, federal park campgroundVisited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten September 6, 2024
- Shannon1978Danvers, Massachusetts82 contributionsWheelchair accessible beach day!Absolutely beautiful! And the facilities were sparkling clean - nicest beach toilets and changing rooms we've ever used! Also the water was so warm in August! We loved it. We borrowed the buoyant beach wheelchair for my daughter and it worked out fantastic. Just send an email to Parks Canada in advance to reserve - they are so helpful!! This was a wonderful beach day!Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten September 9, 2024

We took the boardwalk to the beach and found a spot to relax. I was able to enjoy a nice dip in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten October 2, 2024

Absolutely beautiful. A perfect gem, the whole family enjoyed the beach and the little ones especially enjoyed the sand bars. We felt extra comfortable that there were four lifeguards keeping watch.

Staying in nearby Moncton which we made our base for visiting Hopewell rocks, the Magnetic Hill and this beach here on PEI, we arrived on a windy September day, which turned very sunny in the afternoon. We have not realised, that crossing the long bridge between the mainland and PEI will have to be paid upon returning to mainland and is the most expensive fee we paid for crossing a bridge, at 50.25 CAD!!!
Reaching this beach involved lots of turns via small country side roads, with the map opened on my phone. Being late September, after Lee storm (which kept us awake in Halifax earlier) the beach had no access fee and there were lots of coaches bringing old tourists for a stroll on the beach.
The beach is very long and there is lots of info there on do's and do not. Even the water was warmish and I saved 2 caterpillars blown by the wind to the sand: one decided to further poo on my finger, I guess that is nature gratefulness, right?
Beautiful views in all directions and this area is left unspoiled which I like. Would I come back in summer time though? Not really, I prefer to stick to the provincial parks around Toronto for daily escapades and if I really want a holiday in the sun, probably I would chose quieter locations southern USA/Gulf of Mexico/Caribbean. There are lots of great locations to discover further.

Having lived in Florida for four decades, I’ve seen many beaches… Bland sand, sunburned tourists, lack of geological diversity. Our tour bus stopped here for a couple of hours. A park ranger on the boardwalk had a display of many shellfish, one I mistakenly identified as a crab leg fragment. Nope! It was a clam shell. The boardwalk has an elevated observation deck for those who may have ambulation issues with stairs and walking in sand. For me, the water was cold for a toe dip but others enjoyed full immersion swims. Burr! I was shocked to see some had gathered sink-sized clam shells. Sand dunes, wild grasses and changing hues of water are a painter’s delight. This is a perfect place for a family outing.

We stayed in Cavendish and spent a lot of time here. Going during off season has it's perks as most of the time we were the only ones there. We got into the park for free.
It was the perfect spot to dip your feet into the Atlantic and watch the sunset while hunting for cool rocks and shells.

We had a great visit to the famous Cavendish Beach. It was a bit of a walk to get down to the beach but fully accessible with ramps and mats on the beach. It would have been nice if there were more mats as it’s very difficult to walk on the sand. The water was cold but my husband and tween daughter braved the water and had a great dip. You have to pay to get into the park but that pass is good for 24 hrs and is good for all the Provincial parks and beaches.

Visited PEI in the summer of 2019, and we loved Cavendish beach, so much that we visited more than once.
It was summer and the days were beautiful and hot, needless to say it was fairly busy.
So, had to walk (and lug all our beach gear) a fair ways.
The boardwalk looked recently redone and there was a concession if you didn’t want to pack your lunch, but we did. Big, clean bathrooms and change rooms.
Despite the long walk with our complaining young children (3 and 5), once we were set up at our spot on the beach, it was so worth it.
Awesome beach for kids- water doesn’t drop off so you can walk out quite far, the water was warm fairly warm and the sand was great.

Cavendish Beach had beautiful red cliffs and red sand. I went to the beach in November, and it was very windy and cold, so I would caution visitors who come to this beach in the colder months to dress appropriately. The water was very rough and chilly, but it was great to take a stroll on this beach. I walked down some stairs from the boardwalk to reach this beach. I also walked around a path by the nearby sand dunes. It was interesting to walk within the adjacent woods of this beach. There was a parking lot, and there were bathrooms and shower facilities for the warmer months.

It had been 26 years since my last visit to PEI and Cavendish Beach, and it did not disappoint. We happened to be there on a beautiful and sunny day when the thermometer hit 32 degrees. We did not have any difficulties finding a spot away from the crowds. It's one of my favorite beaches in Canada.

Absolutely gorgeous. We showed up for 7:30 pm (bonus: didn’t have to pay admission fee) and stayed until 9. The kids loved the ocean swim & the sand is so soft and beautiful. Could easily spend the whole day here while having a picnic. This is a must do / visit!

Very unique beach due to its protected dunes. It has a nice boardwalk to get a view of the lake and cliffs. It also has a lot of sand and areas to walk out. Very solid beach and travelling experience (from one who does not like beaches)

We will be visiting Cavendish Oct.8.
Is there still access to the beach ?
Is shops and restaurants still open?
Written October 7, 2017
cavendish is basically a "summer town" the beach should still be accessible as it's a national park ( dont forget your park pass) Some larger restaurants may still be opened. i was in pei for labor day weekend, and most things, such as gateway village were shutting down. you will probably have better luck in Ch'town If you are looking for little shops. it's about 40 min drive.

How close is this beach to Kindred Spirits Inn & Cottages?

Why not check it on Google? I am not sure and would not want to send the wrong information. The Cavendish area is very beautiful and you certainly will enjoy it.
