Wonderful place with great exhibits about the author’s life. I’m so glad I read about this post office! We got our post cards stamped with an Anne of Green Gables stamp (with a sample for ourselves!) and spoke with the nice post mistress.

This is the Postmaster, Lorine, and I am pleased to announce that the fire only damaged the building. Artifacts will be returned by the end of July 2023, and the exhibit will reopen!!

It was my list to mail my postcards home from the Cavendish Post Office, and I did. Not only was the Post Master behind the counter so nice but her mom was there and we had a wonderful conversation. Sometimes its the little things that mean the most. I'm looking forward to getting my postcard :)

I read that there was an exhibit about when Montgomery worked there. Unfortunately it was destroyed in a fire and will not be set up again for another year.

The post office employee was busy talking with another customer to really talk to me :(

Completely play the "tourist" card and mail yourself or family a postcard with the Anne of Green Gables postmark at this quaint post office.

Stopped for post card stamps to place on my Anne of Green Gables post cards purchased just down the road at the Anne of Green Gables Heritage Place. The Post Mistress was extremely friendly and helpful, explaining that post card stamps for the US would also work on letters. She explained the various options of posting a letter other than at the PO, for example there’s a mailing slot at each bank of mail boxes one sees along the roadside, and of course the blue post boxes.

Again if you’re in the area, then you’re probably an Anne of Green Gable’s fan. This is definitely a sight you can’t miss. It is also a working post office. Get the postcards they’re absolutely awesome. Send yourself something home. And exploring the museum will take you maybe 20 minutes to half an hour and it’s on your way out of town

We actually stopped here by accident thinking it was the home of Ann of Green Gables. We did learn that this post office had a devastating fire and most of the post office was closed. The lady behind the counter was very nice and friendly and did offer assistance helping us find our way around. Best of luck to them rebuilding this piece of history.

While the Cavendish Post Office is a recreation, it is filled with excellent for sale materials about Maud and the connected families. Within a short walking distance you can see the remaining foundation of the house where Lucy lived for many years.
You can see the path leading to where the Ann of Green Gables house actually is.
The surrounding area gives clues to what Lucy Montgomery saw and wrote about.
Finally, if you are lucky, you'll meet in the PO the descendent cousin of the McNeill family, a young man in his 20s. Is this place worth seeing? YES

We had read a review about the Cavendish Post Office and decided to stop after picking up post cards else where. We should have waited, the post cards at the post office were very nice and postage is included. The post mistress was very helpful and gave us a couple places to visit the weren’t on our list. The museum was under renovations due to a fire so we couldn’t see that.
