Our family (two adults, granny, and two children) visited Green Gables Alpacas today and had a truly wonderful experience. We learned so much about these animals, and the love and care towards these animals is evident. We were introduced to the alpacas from a safe distance (mostly for the animals protection), and had an informative farm tour by Maggie, our awesome guide. The tour ended with a demo of yarn making by the owner Janet, which was fascinating. This was our first stop on our trip to PEI and will not be forgotten! Thank you.

We unfortunately visited on a rainy day and after summer high season, so no alpacas out in the barnyard and barn tours only on weekends. The store is still worth the visit with a wide selection of alpaca wool products that contain a much higher content of alpaca wool than others commercially available. The woman at the counter was highly knowledgeable in their alpaca to finish products process. An added bonus is if you’re tight on luggage space and weight, they ship online orders.

We both had an incredible experience at the Alpaca Farm! Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable about the alpacas and gave a great tour through the barn and fiber hut. We got to feel the fiber for the 1st and 2nd cuts. We learned a lot about the alpacas. We absolutely fell in love with Griswold the llama. I really recommend a visit here! Janet also gave us a spinning demonstration that was incredible!!! Loved talking to Janet about the farm and PEI. Janet’s recommended Kenny’s Dairy bar in a nearby the village. We loved the food and it was great end to our visit.

When we were driving by around 4pm, the ‘come in, we’re open’ sign was flying in the driveway. As soon as we pulled in, people came out from the barn, house and gift shop. Advising us the last tour was at 3pm, that we would have to come back another day. When we said we didnt need a tour, just wanted to see the animals quickly and take a peak in the gift shop, the older woman (owner?) quickly said ‘fine, just dont stress out the animals!’. Surely walking by the fence isnt going to stress out the animals, considering they do tours of the farm. We were excited to visit, but it left a bad taste in our mouth, and we wont be back. If its that big of a deal to have someone visit outside of tour hours, maybe having a flag isnt a good idea.

Lovely experience! We got go into the paddocks with the alpacas. The animals are very cute and curious, but don’t like to be touched, which is explained in the tour. The tour is very informative, and the owner is extremely knowledgeable. Nice little gift shop on the property sells all kinds of yarn, socks, mitts, etc. There is a washroom in the gift shop as well. Need to book a tour in advance, but Janet was lovely, took photos for us, showed us how she spins yarn from alpaca fibre, and was very helpful while we looked at different yarn weights. We also got to feed a llama!

So much fun- even in the rain! Alpacas and a llama (Griswold!) , a spinning demonstration, and some great shopping. Janet is incredibly knowledgeable and her enthusiasm is infectious. My favorite part was feeding Griswold and getting some great photos. Second favorite was watching Janet spin yarn- fascinating.

Completely disappointed. Came to shop and perhaps see an alpaca. Host seemed angry. Was not impressed. Nowhere in any info was there any indication of admission. Do not recommend. Paid the "tour" fee and left. Good thing there was good scenery on the way. She needs to rethink her business model, approach and attitude.

Hello CKarlL, Thank you for your candid feedback. We strive to provide all of our clients with exceptional service and a quality experience and I sincerely apologize that you left our farm feeling that you did not receive either. Your comments have prompted us to rethink several aspects of the way we deliver our client experience and we have a number of new ideas to implement for next season. I am truly grateful that you took the time to share your perspective with us so that we can learn from it and find ways to improve. Best wishes and kind regards, Janet

I looked up their site as we were driving by...No where does it say you MUST book a tour. We drove by and they have a “C’mon In, We’re Open” sign so we did. When we pulled in and parked (I alone got out just to take a quick look at the Alpacas), a women came out (Janet), quite briskly, asking if I had booked a tour. I explained we were just passing through and I had never seen an alpaca and was hoping to just see the cute guys in person. She went on about how I should have booked a tour, and seemed so put out that I just wanted to look at them for a minute, I actually felt uncomfortable. Saying that she had time to show me where the gift shop was, and to bring me a business card and again reminded me how to book a tour. She was borderline rude and made me uncomfortable for stopping. If you don’t want people to stop, don’t put sign casting Come in !!! Instead put one out that says you only accept scheduled reservations. Disappointing. Manners say a lot about people.

Thank you for your feedback. I appreciate the time you took to share your experience. I am sorry that the interaction was less than what we strive for. Our business has grown dramatically in the past year or so. Prior to this year, we offered tours and opportunities for folks to ‘just see’ our animals on a demand basis and we quickly learned that demand was exceeding our resources. We are a small farm with limited space and can only safely accommodate a limited number of vehicles and people on our property at any given time. In addition to space constraints, limiting tour group size prevents the possibility of overwhelming our animals, especially during the heat of the summer. This year we implemented advanced booking of tours to try to manage this growth in traffic. All of our social media accounts and current marketing materials indicate that booking of tours is recommended. We do recognize that change is a process and it will take time for the message to reach all potential clients and those who may be suggesting us. We try to accommodate drop in traffic, but only when we have the capacity to do so. Unfortunately, when your group arrived, we already had a full tour underway and we would have been overwhelming our animals and our staff for me to add another tour at that time. I did offer that you visit our on farm store, as that is open daily from 9am to 5pm. I do sincerely apologize if I was abrupt in attempting to convey our limitations; I did not intend it to be. While we never enjoy receiving negative feedback, we do find it helpful to learn from. It allows us to see our experience thru the eyes of our clients and helps us improve for future visitors. We will be reviewing our on farm signage as well as our on line material to ensure all are consistent with our new delivery format. Thank you for your thoughtful feedback. Have a wonderful summer. Regards, Janet

Drove two hours to get here after checking multiple times to make sure that it was open. Both website and Facebook page verified that yes, indeed it was from 12:00pm - 5:00pm during off-season. Was very excited to meet alpacas! Arrived at 12:15pm, and they were closed, with a sign that said "will return at 1:50pm." Hoping for the best, we killed two hours, and returned back. Closed again. We weren't the only ones believing they were open. At least advertise your hours properly, when you have people flocking from areas as far as Boston to visit your farm.

Thank you very much for your candid feedback. I would like to apologize for the inconvenience and disappointment that you experienced during your recent visit to our farm. You drove a long way to see us and I am sorry that our farm was closed when you arrived. While our off season hours are 12-5 weekends only until Nov 6, there are several weekends we planned to be closed (including this past weekend). These dates were posted to our Facebook page, albeit earlier in the fall. We also use on farm signage at our main entrance when we are not open. We do this specifically to address these types of situations. However, I did note on my return home on Monday night that the signs had been dislodged. Clearly, despite our attempts to keep visitors informed of our hours, we failed to do so adequately. Please be assured that I am putting steps in place to ensure that when deviations to our regular hours are necessary, that this information is prominently displayed both on farm and thru the various social media forums that we use. I do appreciate the time you took to provide your feedback and I am sincerely sorry for the inconvenience and disappointment caused during your visit. I do hope that if you return to the area, you will give us the opportunity improve your experience with us. Sincerely, Janet

We really enjoyed visiting the Alpaca farm. It's not an activity that takes all day, but if you love animals, they are just so cute to see. There is a little store to purchase beautiful items, even my 10 year old loves this store. An added plus is the drive there - P.E.I. is so beautiful.
