This small but well managed museum if focused on the history of the first French settlers (from 1604) named the Acadians. The period covers the settlement of what is now called Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, the Great upheaval (mass deportation in 1755), how some escaped and survived, and interestingly, where did the survivors re-settle in the 18th, 19th and even 20th centuries. In a second small building, there is an exhibition of mock-ups of the historical buildings of Bonaventure. I learned a lot about the Acadians' culture and history. Also, there are a couple of small shops which around the museum which are worth having a look at.

This is a great and picturesque spot to stop. There is an excellent film that alone is enough reason to stop. On the ground floor while we were there there was an exhibition of paintings . The Acadian displays are on the second floor and include quite an interesting account of the Acadian names with one display tracing a family through the years. Anyone interested in geneology would enjoy this. Outside there are a few little shops.

The museum brought the story of Acadien history to life in an informative and entertaining format. We really enjoyed the exhibits and learned a great deal about the histoyr of the Acadian people and their influence on the Gaspe' region.

Very disappointed. So little information and a total lack of curation. Music? None. Visuals? Very limited and of poor quality. Movies and texts and examples? None. Audio history? None. Reference to gastronomy? Almost none. Information? So basic that a paragraph of Wikipedia does better. Incroyablement déçue! Do not recommend in the least. Spend your money elsewhere. Overpriced shops of third rate crafts nearby. Give it a miss. Sadly. So watered down this venue could have been created by the British.

Had a wonderful time here and learned so much - the displays are wonderful and the staff very helpful with any questions that you might have. Be sure to walk around the area as it is beautiful and full of history.

Worth a stop. This is the first and only official Acadian Museum in Quebec that offers a rather concise anthropological and historical look at the Acadian establishment at Bonaventure in Chaleur Bay. The religious, social and architectural elements are well represented and give light on this people's culture and its local folklore. English translation available for this 'permanent exhibition'. Also, one may view the temporary exhibitions on the main floor which always offer wondrous surprises. Boutique & literature section,,,and most important, a warm Acadian welcome.

I went to this museum when I first moved in the area. I must admit that, although I love to read and learn about history, I am not fond of museums. They tend to bore me rather quickly. What made the Mus/e Acadien different was the guide that accompanied the small group I was with. Lilly I believe her name was. She was knowledgeable and fun and related the information to places in the region. The installations and exhibits became alive with her comments and I walked away 2 hours later wanting to read more about this part of history that is so strong here in Gaspesie. If you are in the area, spending a rainy afternoon at the museum is not a bad idea at all!

Wevwere across the street at the Riotel hôtel and saw there was a museum there. It was the Acadian museum but it was close to closing time. We hopped over and thé gentleman there was so nice, he let us stay until 45 minutes afterbhe was supposed to finish! He was so proud of telling us tales and talking about the Acadian history, and we were eager to learn more. An extremely informative outing for only 5$ per person. This was one of the highlights of our trip as we gît thé full taste of Acadian hospitality.

Nice small size, easy to get through in an hour. Some interesting pieces and good explanations of Acadian origins. Also liked the shops next door, part of the same museum site.
Was a bit expensive, but I don't fault them.
