We brought our 4 kids up the mountain and we all loved the view! It was worth the modest entry fee. They are currently building amazing huts that will offer unique accommodations bringing you one with nature...but this is not for little children since it's so high!

We didn't visit the oratory since it was closed but we did the short climb up to it from parking no 2. Takes about 30 minutes to reach the top from there on a clearly marked trail. Probably the best view on the Baie des Chaleurs at the end.

This is looking acted at 555 meters in the mountain which give you a super view over Baie des Chaleurs, you can drive, walk or bike up this mountain. At the top there is also an old church to visit and an At Gallery, when around there if you do not visit Mont St Joseph then you miss something out of the common.

It's a fair bet that most visitors are there for the view but on a morning when the fog was so dense you couldn't see across the parking lot, the full fee of $10 per person was still being charged.

The oratory is worth a quick walk around but there is little of interest. There is a gift shop with not much to buy. Searching for something positive, I must say that the washrooms were excellent.

The short but twisting and steep drive up the mountain gets even more thrilling on the way down. (The sloping parking lot features barriers, just in case.)

The view is expansive, with interesting historical/geographical placards along the viewing walkway. Worth a visit.

This is a short drive up the mountain behind Carleton. You can go up and back down in less than 30 minutes, or spend the day hiking. The views from the top are absolutely stunning, with a windmill farm behind and the Baie des Chaleurs in front, farmland and housing tracts spread out below. The altitude is only about 1600 ft, but the views are glorious. Go in the fall for an amazing drive through flame coloured trees and a view that is even better!

As with any elevation that is quick to get to, the pitch of the road is....well,...., it's interesting. 15% compression for 4 km - always the kind of sign that wakes you up! Some people bike up - I can only imagine it takes them all day to get up and 3 minutes to get down! Anyways, it's a drive that will wake you up quickly.

Enjoy the views!

Drove the 555 metres up to the Oratoire. Beautiful look-out of Carleton sur Mer and Baie des Chaleurs. There are hiking trails leading to other lookouts, windmills and beautiful views. Don't miss going inside the Oratoire. The chapel is beautiful and ornate. There are also pictures around where you can see how life in the area was many years ago. There is also an artist exposition. Nice way to spend a couple of hours. Be careful, there were many black flies in the entire Carleton sur Mer area when we went.

This is a great observation point. We arriveed late in the afternoon and enjoyed the view of the village and the bay.

The drive up was not as difficult as some would suggest. Driving down was no problem with a lower gear selected to reduce the need for the breaks.
