The canyon is well worth a visit if you are passing through the area but I would not go out of my way to visit it. Why? There are equally good canyons to visit in Europe. This is not a uniquely Mexican experience. However, the wildlife on offer included crocodiles, herons, pelicans, iguanas and vultures and to that extent it had something to raise it above the ordinary. Tour larger two hours ( return journey) and to that extent represented decent value for money. Don't be put off by my review....it wasn't but, it just wasn't special in a country that had many special things in it…

It's quite a way to come but it will not disappoint. Most people stop on their way to San Cristobal. The guides do a great job in finding the wildlife, we saw birds, iguanas, crocs, and monkeys. Not all the boats have a covering so you will need some sun protection. It feels very hot out on the water. The canyon is quite impressive. Don't be put off by the rubbish there is not much the locals can do when it is all coming from further up the river. They do the best they can keeping the river around their town quite clean and you will see the difference.…

We went to the canyon in a group of 4. It was an awesome nature experience as we saw a crocodile and several iguanas. The views were stunning, dont miss it! I recommend to bring a hat that does not fly away (locals sell a strap for your hat just outside), and a long shirt to cover your arms. The sun is quite strong and with the wind it can get a little fresh. The boat driver asked us for tips half way through which from my opinion was rather inappropriate and uncomfortable. Half way they also give you the opportunity to buy some snacks and drinks in the water before driving the same route back.…
