It does help to know a bit about the history before entering this museum...as there are limited tags in English. To only was the information, murals, paintings interesting, the building itself was once a jail...so was fun to wander the different rooms.

This is a small place just down the street from the Church of the Grito, but it packs a lot of power. I received a better overview of this epoch than in the National Museum of History in Chapultepec CdMx and here most of the...More

Pretty well laid out museum, except for sending you to one exhibit showing the break out of the prisoners, then taking you to pre Hispanic times but nonetheless very informative. I learned a lot here. Unfortunately, some of the reviews here are about another museum...More

Well laid out museum with dioramas and artwork depicting various episodes in the history of the 1810 revolution. Worth a walk through even though many of the explanations are in Spanish and not translated. Supposedly until the '50's the local jail where Miguel Hidalgo went...More

The museum, housed in the 18th century house where Miguel Hidalgo once lived, provides both an account of Mexico's road to independence and an opportunity to see period furnishings. The museum is small so can easily be seen in under an hour. If you want...More

Thank heavens we didn't spend the 800 pesos for a private driver our hotel could have arranged. Instead we took a good bus- about an hour from San Miguel de Allende. There are two good things at Dolores Hidalgo. Great tequila Nieves - frozen cones....More

This is a small museum (compared with its neighbours in Guanajuato, for instance) but it tells the story of the Independence with closeness and passion. There are interesting charts and some contrasting murals and exhibitions of modern artists. Well worth a visit.
