What an incredible experience! Sundays are the best, but arrive early to find good parking spots. Prices are almost a third to 1/2 of what you would experience in Tlaquepaque. Food is fabulous and there is something for everyone. Many merchants align the streets with hand made goods, glass, clay plates, cookware, Catrinas, Day of the dead figurines, serapes, Mexican... Make sure to go out from the "tented table vendors" to the shops in the surrounding blocks. The shops that are out from the market are filled with specialty items. We found a wonderful glass shop, and ordered a custom made chandelier from the artisan. Can't wait to get it!

The tianguis (the indigenous term for open air market) is huge. Probably the biggest I have seen to date in Mexico. It takes place Thursdays and Saturdays. Though there is a relatively low percentage of gringos and most of the clients are local there are opportunities to buy various souvenirs. However the real reason to go is to experience the... More

We spent the whole day shopping. The prices and people were great. Quality and variety of items is beyond belief. I would say this business district is better for the middle class.

We are a Family Of four with young kids. Came from Guadalajara which by the way we were not to impressed. Stayed in Hotel Tonala which I highly recommend. The people are great. So much to see!! The market had a variety of items, but LOTS of shop owners with the same items. Lots of duplicates, for example probably 50 stalls of nothing but tennis shoes. Some authentic Mexican items.

So much to see! Great shopping at the Thursday tianguis /market. Vendor stalls lined the street in front of the stores. Lots of snacks, food, furniture, clothing and pottery. I only left the market because I was too exhausted to stay !

very busy on Market Days Thursday and Saturday, though very much worth the time, friendly and helpful People. Taking a bus tour may be the best for first time Marketers. Plenty of Restaurants, different styles/food Centro Square just behind Market Street. Great old building to explore.

We went to Tonala by taxi from downtown centro Guadalajara, 150p. at 10:00. Wow, oh wow. The tent city of goods is just something else. It is everywhere in this one area. I had a map which I printed off the internet so we knew where to go but I threw that out the window, Ha! So much to see!... More
