About
AN EXPERIENCE IN THE MAYAN UNDERWORLD Over millions of years, nature has sculpted works of art in Zazil Tunich Cave that the world can marvel at today. Twenty meters underground, a passage leads for 200 meters into the depths of the cave. Along 80 meters of the path, you’ll see stunning stalactites and stalagmites then you’ll enter XIBALBA where there is a sacred cenote with shallow, crystal-clear waters. Before you reach the pool, you’ll pass through the Crossing of the BESO MAYA (Mayan Kiss) formed by the capricious tilt of a giant stalagmite and the CUEVA DEL ALUX (Guardian of the Caves), next to the platform of the LORDS OF XIBALBA, the Mayan Underworld. You are embarking on a journey, an unforgettable experience in the Maya Underworld that is full of tranquility, mysticism and awe at nature’s creation. Caves and cenotes were holy places in Mayan mythology and considered gateways to the home of the gods.

- claudette V2 contributionsBest Cenote experience in the YucatanThe small group size was perfect. Our guide was available the entire time to answer any questions we might have had. Dinner was phenomenal and the Mayan ceremony did not appear to be just a show but a genuine purification ceremony.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten December 22, 2023
- Jennifer F3 contributionsMagical placeWe made reservations directly from the web page. We were lucky because we were the only ones there! Beautiful grounds! Received a maya purification/blessing and headed into the cenote. Very unique cenote and very different from the open cenote with rope swings. The guides are well informed and welcoming. Magical place! More sacred than than fun. Really enjoyed it. It is far from valladolid and getting a taxi can be challenging and the taxi must wait for you. Book transportation through the website.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten December 24, 2023
- Antonio RomeroConkal, Mexico31 contributionsAmazing place!Amazing experience! We reserved for a special occasion and it was completely worth it. Edna was a great tourist guide! Thank you very much Edna! Place has a lot of things to do and see if you love nature, DO NOT TOUCH the stone formations, respect the nature. Photo shoots at the place are amazing and food is awesome too. The cenote water is shallow, so don't expect diving, but it's a completely different experience filled with shadows, lights, sounds and energy. Be careful and respect the surroundings and people, they are what make this place special. Thank you guys for an amazing experience!!!!Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten February 3, 2024
- Dennis R2 contributionsA truly magical experienceWe booked the romantic dinner experience and it was absolutely fantastic. We were lucky to be the only couple in the cenote. The cenote itself is stunning and very well-maintained, the most beautiful one we visited during our Yucatan trip. Our guide was very nice and she told us a lot of interesting stuff about the cenote and the Maya culture. For the swimming part: the water is not very deep and it's recommended to bring water shoes. The dinner was delicious as well. Our main course was fish, made following a traditional Mayan cooking technique. The entire experience (excluding transport) took a little over 2 hours, of which about 20 minutes was the swimming part. It felt really special and it is absolutely one of the most magical places on earth to have dinner. The only critical point we can mention, is that we had to pay separately for the drinks.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten May 24, 2024
- Eric T4 contributionsAmazing Cave and CenoteAmazing cenote in a mind-blowing cave underground. It's all on a beautiful property that used to be a hacienda. The taxi to and from our hotel was nice. There was a tour guide that explained the history of the place, then after there was a short Mayan ceremony to cleanse our energies with a legit Mayan shaman, as well as a chocolate and anise liquor tasting. It was fun! You might want to bring plastic sandals for when you go in the water because there are a bunch of tiny pebbles and rocks.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten May 25, 2024

We cannot say enough about how amazing this place is. The history behind it is amazing and the cenote is stunning.
We truly enjoyed our time speaking with the family and the traditional Mayan blessing was heartfelt. I highly recommend making a night visit! Contact sight directly for accommodations.

It is hard to find the words to describe this experience. We went in the evening to avoid the heat, a long dark country drive in a taxi that was contacted by the person who made our reservation through the website by adding transportation onto our payment. We communicated through What's App. It is in the middle of nowhere, or so it felt to me. My husband, 74 year old mother, and 6 year old daughter. When we arrived there was only one other family and it was a very intimate, magical experience. The man who led us through the cave had just started doing tours. He was working on his English, he did really well, and was from the local village next door to the cenote which was somewhat recently discovered. Whoever runs the place is obviously being intentional about providing jobs to the community. And he was a Mayan Man, which to me is equally as important because the guides are describing the legends and knowledge that they were passed down through generations. Walking into the cave takes your breath away. And then swimming in the lit cenote and just absorbing the place is unforgettable. They set the mood to tell the story of Xibalba, but the guide makes you feel that this is not just a story, but knowledge from a different world from ours in America that the Mayan people are still very in touch with in their daily lives. We were served dinner by our guide in the yard and for dessert we had a ball made from pumpkin seeds, honey, and rolled in cinnamon. He said it was his grandmothers recipe. Relaxing, beautiful, special...I'm so glad we decided to go.

We spent an amazing evening here. We had selected the Xibalba night deal where we were given a tour of the Cenote and were able to swim in it and then had a dinner in the restaurant. When we first got there there was quite a lot of people (a bus tour party) but they left soon after and we were able to swim in the cenote alone. I have to agree with the reviews that say that the photos do not do this cenote justice - it really is incredibly beautiful.
The dinner afterwards was very nice as well, the food was delicious (the pibil chicken was falling off the bone) and the waiter very nice. The setting was also quite romantic in the middle of the jungle with the rain around us. Highly recommend - it really is a marvellous experience for a very very decent price!

My partner and I picked the couple's package which included transportation, a tour, cenote swim and a 3 course meal for a total of 1700 pesos.
We were picked by Hernando, the dedicated driver for the experience from Valladolid. For a 700 pesos return trip, it was great as he was very interesting to talk to and is the son of the owner. The cenote is 40 mins or so from Valladolid so it was nice to learn more about the area on the way there.
When we arrived our guide, Raul, showed us the history of the area including the Maya and their beliefs. He was very informative and funny. The cenote is incredible and probably the best I've seen in Yucatán, having seen around 10 between Valladolid and Tulum/playa del Carmen. It's really not touristy and we had the whole cenote to swim in on our own which was a pleasure. The rock formations and atmosphere is really spot on considering cenotes are meant to symbolise xibalba (Mayan underworld).
After our swim and tour, we sat down to 3 course meal which was absolutely delicious, especially the starter. It's all home cooked food with Mayan recipes handed down for generations but with a bit of a posher flare. Vegetarian options are available and we loved that (a rare find in México).
Overall, absolutely incredible and a 5 star experience.

We visited a few cenotes and this was by far the best. The cave is well lit and the limestone formations are really impressive. We were lucky enough that there were only two other guests there - a coach arrived as we were leaving. We didn’t get in the water but the other couple said it was really nice.
It’s a bit more expensive that some of the others, but it’s not commercialised like Xkeken and Samula and there is no one trying to con you into a guided tour so I think it’s well with the money.

We were really impressed until the end when we realized that they covered the holes on the roof of the cavern to give it an artificially closed cenote feel. I would have preferred that they let the light in as this really is a semi-open Cenote with several holes on the ceiling. It would have been naturally beautiful. What a shame.

My partner and I literally had the bet date we've ever had so far and probably forever here. We got the Huinik Romantic Dinner package and it was an extremely good deal. The cenote is beyond magical, and the experience that Oma curated for us with the historical and mythological context truly made this a spiritual experience. All the staff were wonderful, and the grounds above the cenote were also great. Highly recommend a visit!

My girlfriend and I had an amazing experience here and greatly enjoyed every moment. This was our first cenote that we visited and we really appreciated the history and cultural information provided on our trip. Manuel explained the importance of cenotes in Mayan cosmology and it made the whole experience much more special than a fun swim in a hole in the ground.
Inside, we had dinner and happened to have the whole cenote to ourselves that evening. It's expansive and beautiful and very romantic. The food was fantastic as well. We had salmon and it was as good as any salmon I can make myself or have had in restaurants (I lived in Alaska for years so have had quite a bit!).
The water was chilly and refreshing and we just couldn't get over the beauty of it all. 10 out of 10, would highly recommend.

$ 320. Saludos
