Soar above a breathtaking landscape, sculpted over time, decorated by nature and enjoyed by generations.Stand on top of Dunstable Downs for a view that will simply take your breath away. These Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) are designated for the quality of their chalk grasslands. As well as two Scheduled Ancient Monuments (Five Knolls and Medieval Rabbit Warrens) there are many other historical features and the site has much to offer you.The chalk grasslands of the Downs have miles of footpaths and several circular walks, a fascinating history and an abundance of plants and wildlife.Dunstable Downs is within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and the highest point in Bedfordshire. The wind-swept ridge provides ideal conditions for a variety of air sports, especially kite flying. On calmer days it's the ideal site to enjoy the view and a picnic. Please note: Chilterns Gateway Centre is owned by Central Bedfordshire Council and managed by the National Trust.

When I visited this 20 years ago this was a hillside with nice views and a small car park. Now it seem to have been converted into the Dunsable downs national trust experience !! Car park is 2.50, you can buy brass hares, plastic tat and overpriced Lattes in the giant cafe / retail outlet. It amazes me the national... More

Visited on Easter Sunday and was very busy even though weather wasn't great. Great place for kite flying, ball games, walks, picnics, great views and just sitting watching. National trust car park, cafe and gift shop. Can get extremely busy as no other places nearby. Cafe is expensive.

There is something for everyone - spectators, participants and walkers. Fabulous views in all directions, with the sun blazing you get a real sense of harmony with your fellow man and nature itself. Ample parking and space to get away from the crowds if you wish in the nearby woods towards Whipsnade.

Dunstable Downs is great for all the family. Especially in the summer months where kite flying is very popular or just sit and watch the gliders and hang gliders. Good choice of drinks and food in the welcome centre. Worth a visit.

Beautiful scenic location. Huge area. Good cafe/restaurant. Kite flying. Must see ! Avoid going on a rainy day as there is no shelter other than the cafe. Car parking is not free however not expensive.

This is a place of tranquillity and stunning views. Great place to walk for miles and a fab place to rest and have a coffee and lunch and still take in the view at the same time

With the right weather, a great place for flying a kite and watching the gliders. A good little café serves reasonably priced food. Shop with gifts and food and of course kites....:)

We often come to Dunstable Downs just to sit and enjoy the scenery. It really is so beautiful. There is a lovely gift shop/information centre. I love watching the gliders. It looks so peaceful.
