We went to see Cartmel, having heard about it and having driving so often along the A590 so many times and not bothering to go - see. Well worth the detour. Cartmel, with it's racecourse and Priory has to be seen to be believed. The working parish church has an amazing history, and should a service be on and you... More

We visited Cartmel Priory as we were in Cartmel, as opposed to making a specific journey to the priory. There is no entry fee as such, but a donation of £5 per person/family is suggested! It is a nice little priory but not lots to see. However, if you're in Cartmel and you have a bit of time to spare,... More

Such a wonderful place. You can actually feel the spirits of those who've gone before. The wrong way round tower adds curiosity. If you're easily spooked the skull engraved grave markers in the nave and aisles are effective in reminding us of where we'll be soon. Lovely.

We had to go through this Medieval Archway quite a few times. It's owned by the National Trust....but not other information posted!

Lovely old Priory with an interesting history. There are guided tours which I think would be worthwhile although we did not go on one so I cannot comment on the content. Very old graves tho most of the graveyard is fenced off

We were recommended Cartmel as a good place to walk our dogs, we went through the race course and there is a large open ground where we could let the dogs run free. The village is very picturesque with good pubs and local shops selling locally produced goods, including delicious cheeses, beers and sticky toffee pudding. Definitely worth a visit... More

Cartmel is a charming village, with nice little shops and cafes, but to miss the Priory is to miss a major experience. It was built by the same man who built Pembroke Castle (another very impressive structure.)

We visited and were given a useful guide to use as we walked around. There is a suggested donation of £5 per adult but no pressure to make it. We parked out of the village and walked in.
