The house is full of great stories, linking into items and furniture throughout. It had a 'good feeling' about the place and was well worth the visit. The female guides, (particularly the lady in the 'Fire Room') were very friendly and knowledgeable. Unfortunately, the man...More

We called in as we were stopping nearby and are so glad we did. This house is packed full of history and charm. Fortunately for us the family who farmed here kept and reused things rather than throwing them away.

As Nation Trust members, we visited as we had an hour to spend and we were staying at Troutbeck. Both house and garden were a delight to wander round, Volunteers were easy to talk to and very knowledgeable. Carvings on furniture were amazing.

The house is lovely. Representing a way of life of the gentry in the Lake District, the National Trust now has responsibility for its upkeep. The history goes back 400 plus years and the furniture is mainly from the last 100 years. The Trust carefully...More
