The historic and reputedly haunted Castle dating from the mediaeval age has been home to the Pennington family for over 800 years. It is a treasury of beautiful art and antiques, collected through the ages by the family who still live there. The Castle sits majestically in over 70 acres of wild, woodland gardens famous for collections of rhododendrons and azaleas set against the stunning backdrop of the Lakeland fells including Scafell Pike, England's highest mountain. The Bird of Prey Centre is well worth a visit with daily displays at 2.30Pm and watch the wild herons come in to feed at Heron Happy Hour at 4pm. The indoor MeadowVole Maze is an entertaining ecological attraction to entertain the young at heart. Playground, cafe, gift shops and an ancient church are all within the gardens. Regular events programme, including festivals, outdoor theatre, historical re-enactors and Halloween Week.

We spent an afternoon at Muncaster Castle on a hot sunny day. We arrived just in time for the bird show and are so glad we did. It was fantastic and the presenters were great too. The castle itself was interesting to visit. I loved the library. We also did the Mole Maze which was for kids but we got... More

We love this place!! Its' got a huge place in our hearts after getting married here in 15th October 2016. Everybody especially Sue Dent made our day run smoothly and made it an unforgettable experience. We spent 4 days there in total and basically took over the Coachmans Quarters, their b&b. We loved seeing all of the birds of prey... More

We came to Muncaster to attend a wedding and were pleased to hear it was rated 4 stars. In fact, it was nothing of the sort - apart from a very nice breakfast, there were no facilities. The reception looked like the service entrance and the only place to get some milk for the kids was the Tesco 8 miles... More

We visited here today with our 4 year old grandson - last came 5/6 years ago with our daughter. We were warmly welcomed in the small cafe/gift shop and informed of where we could go and what time the flying was. We explored the lovely gardens and play area before heading back to cafe for a great bowl of warming... More

We have been visiting Muncaster every year for the last 20 years at this time of year and have been impressed by the way the attraction has evolved and improved without loss of the unique homely atmosphere. We were rather disappointed this year. The loss of the World Owl Centre has made the whole experience much poorer value for money,... More

Thank you for your review but I must admit to being rather puzzled by it. The Castle always closes each year by the 1st Sunday in November if not before and our opening times are always clearly displayed on our website; if you genuinely visited before the Castle closed for the winter season, why did you not turn up until...
