About
Now open in our new location. We have a vastly improved exhibition area for you to learn about the life and work of Stan Laurel, with many information boards, personal items and pictures to see. Our cinema area can accommodate around 30 people, showing films and documentaries all day. This is the first phase of our expansion plans with new things being added all the time. The Laurel and Hardy Museum in Ulverston began as the private collection of Bill Cubin, a lifelong fan. Now being run by his grandson, we hope to entertain and inform you about the worlds' best loved double act. New display recently opened. The museum began life as private collection, a wonderful jumble of memorabilia. Our new display attempts to recreate that feeling. A small room packed to the gills with pictures, statues, mugs, records, anything and everything to do with The Boys.

- Mags BEast Kilbride, United Kingdom798 contributionsBrought back some happy memoriesPassing through Ulverston, I wanted to reminisce on my childhood days when I used to laugh at the brilliant Laurel & Hardy. Lots of information about them and pictures and the films are playing continuously with seating to sit and watch it again if you wish. Then there is another room with so much memorabilia everywhere. We are a family of 5 and did contemplate not going in as the teenagers were not keen. So glad I did as me and the hubby loved seeing it, watched a movie and had some photo opportunities too. ÂŁ14 for a family ticket for up to 3 kids which I loved too. Their statue is also round the corner from the museum for another photo opportunity.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten October 3, 2023
- Al-ShumbaBedfordshire, United Kingdom721 contributionsReliving childhood entertainmentWe visited the museum in Ulverston. It was packed with information about the comedy duo, with tons of memorabilia. It is situated in an old theatre and play Laurel and Hardy films on loop. We sent an hour reading the articles and looking around followed by 20 minutes just sitting and watching a couple of the black and white movies. A great flashback to growing up watching their films on TV or at the cinema. Ideal for a wet days out in the lake District.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 22, 2023
- DoilikeitLondon, United Kingdom95 contributionsWell worth a visitWent today as hubby likes them. Loads of photos of the pair and info about their lives. One part dedicated to memorabilia absolutely stuffed with items. You can sit and watch their films in cinema seats or have a tea or coffee at a table while watching. Well worth a visit.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 25, 2023
- Candj9173North West England, United Kingdom843 contributionsSo much potential!I'd wanted to visit the museum for some time. While the visit wasn't quite the experience that I'd hoped for, it was still a good one. Firstly, the museum needs better signposting - not just outside the place but in the town generally. It is something that we need to shout about. Secondly, it needs someone with plenty of vision to make the museum something very special. There are some fantastic exhibits and the information boards around the venue are well presented. The place itself is freezing cold and the loos were flooded on the day that we visited. There is very little for sale in the shop area and it is poorly displayed. However, the welcome we got from the staff was friendly.Visited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten December 28, 2023
- Darren D8 contributionsBrilliant tributeBrilliant well worth your money. Loads of memrobia lots to see great story about Laurel and hardy. The guy who runs the museum very helpful and loves Laurel and Hardy. He also sent us to Laurels house brilliant memorable day. Loved it. Well worth a visit.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten February 29, 2024
- BRR20 contributionsAnother fine mess.Good price for ticket. If you can't laugh at this museum then forget it. Showing old films one after another, very funny, laughter keeps the stress away. Really surprised, this sort of thing hasn't been given any lottery funding to excel an excellent museum of yesterdays greats.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten June 20, 2024
- Esther D2 contributionsGreat placeGreat place, but as soon as the owner realised I wasn't in a proper tent, his whole demeanor changed. I had made the 3-hour train journey to visit the museum and it would have been nice to have been treated with more kindness, despite living 40 miles from my local tent. Finances may not allow me to come for Stan's birthday next year, so this was almost certainly once in a lifetime.Visited June 2024Travelled soloWritten June 23, 2024
- Nellybrown0Martinborough, New Zealand17 contributionsCould be so much betterWas looking forward to visiting this little museum but was disappointed. It could be so much better, feels disorganised. Lots of interesting information and movies are continuously shown with seating available. Needs a good clean and tidy up, possibly lack of funding - could be a huge attraction just needs a little bit of love and money.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten July 2, 2024
- Jonathan R17 contributionsGreat museum...Really interesting museum, quite small yet packed with old costumes, memorabilia and information in an easy to digest format. There's also a cinema area showing a constant rotation of movies starring Stan and Ollie. A couple of hours well spent.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten July 8, 2024
- Mark FBracknell, United Kingdom236 contributionsUnique, Nostalgic, and Something Out of the OrdinaryAs a family who are fans of Laurel and Hardy, and classic comedy this was a must for us to visit. Not the easiest building to find, but find we did, and I'm glad we made the trip to Ulverston. There is so much memorabilia on show and the cinema inside is constantly playing old Laurel and Hardy classics. I could have sat there all day watching the genius of L&H. The enthusiasm of the gentleman who runs it is wonderful to see, he's a real fan. He told us that the museum was started by his Grandfather, and he now continues with that love and passion. Alas comedy like this is disappearing, and so will unique places like this disappear also, in this age of digital. Investment is needed to maintain this wonderful place, and money is needed to give it a revamp to really display all the wonderful items collected over the years. If you've got a spare hour to kill, and want something nostalgic, and that little bit different from the usual tourist sites, then this is a must.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten August 12, 2024

If you are a fan (and I suppose you would be to visit in the first place) then this is one for your bucket-list. There are the usual displays with information about Stan growing up and his career before, during and after his partnership with Ollie. There is also a mini theatre where their best known comedy shorts are played for you to watch. There is also a section where pretty much every kind of memorabilia is on display. We made a flying visit where I photographed (photography is allowed as long as it's for personal use) the information boards to read later but we were still there for about an hour but we could have spent so much longer there. The guy behind the counter was also a fan and very pleasant. A great place to visit and a must for any true fan.

We made a trip to Ulverston for the sole purpose of visiting the museum and it did not disappoint. From very humble beginnings the only official museum of Laurel and Hardy is a place to visit and remember. This place was founded on the love of the comedy and not for profit. We spent a good while chatting with the current owner, grandson of the original owner Bill, and it was both fascinating and very heartfelt. There is so much to see and there is so much to learn, the biggest thing we can away with, apart from half the gift shop, was the realisation that whenever you talk about memories of Laurel and Hardy it always involves family. It is truly a wonderful place to visit, don’t expect a flash modern museum but more a home for beloved treasures.
We visited the original room’ several years ago and now it it has blossomed into the what it is today. Visit if you can because you won’t be disappointed, they keep the place going and if ever it closed down it would be a tragedy.
What a truly wonderful place.

The exhibition was very interesting, with lots of historical background information of the famous two. Did not know much about the history of the gentlemen before visiting Ulverston museum, to be honest finding out that Oliver was American was quite surprising to me.
During the day 20 minute short films were shown, which were funny and very enjoyable.
There were some exhibits that you could put your head through and look as though you were the men, lovely touch.
This was a family collection that then became the contents for the museum, ticket seller was a family member and was very interesting to speak with.
Improvements that could be made, air fresheners, or at least freshen the carpets as at times quite a musty smell, although you did get used to it. I think the entrance fee was around ÂŁ9. or ÂŁ9.50, higher than mentioned on visitor sites so please be prepared. Overall a very pleasant way to spend a couple of hours in Ulverston.

My husband and I visited the Laurel and Hardy museum for my Birthday as I've been a lifelong fan of the comedy duo! The small entrance fee of ÂŁ6.00 was exceptionally good value for money. Although the museum wasn't large, there was a minefield of information, photographs and memorabilia. The chap who was working there (not sure if he is the owner) was very helpful and knowledgeable. There were seats available so you could sit and watch a Laurel and Hardy film (the films were running back to back). There was a bar, with hot and cold drinks and some snacks. Well worth a visit!

I you're already a fan of L & H, it's a must visit. The museum is a shrine to the comedy genius. There were a dozen or so people watching L & H movies and for many people you could happily spend a few hours enjoying them.
I'm not sure that kids would enjoy the museum, it's not interactive or hi-tech but they could get hooked on the comedy if they watched a film or two.

This museum seems to be housed inside an old cinema, which is a perfect location. The owner is extremely friendly and helpful. Once inside, the visitor is confronted with an amazing array of memorabilia from costumes to statues, posters and curios. The collection is vast and doesn't appear to be in any discernible order for the most part, but this exhibition is all the better for that. You can stay inside for as long as you like watching Laurel and Hardy films in the mini cinema, which play constantly. This is a must visit museum for all lovers of the legendary Laurel and Hardy.

This is a treasure trove of L&H memorabilia, sited within the old cinema at Ulverston.
Any fans of the comedy duo will want to visit. There is lots of artefacts and things of interest, plus a shop to buy themed items and a rolling sequence of short films to enjoy. Allow a couple of hours to get the most out of your visit.

If you are visiting Ulverston, for whatever reason, make sure The Stan Laurel Inn, is on your culinary agenda. This bar/restaurant is by far, the best eaterie in Ulverston. I`m well aware that my opinion is subjective. However, for the price, the standard of the food and the portions plus the very good service I was very impressed with the whole experience of the occasion. I ordered a homemade Indian curry(RoganJosh) It came with boiled or Pilah rice, papadum, and Nan bread. The latter came with a small supplement. It cost.ÂŁ10.00 for the whole meal. The portion was indeed hearty and it was truly homemade. The spices, meat, and sauce complimented the chef, it was very nice and very good, to say the least. My wife ordered a homemade lasagne it was unbelievably inviting and authentic, huge and tasted just superb especially with their homemade garlic bread.ÂŁ10-ÂŁ12. The Fish and Chips looked golden brown and not dripping with oil, Pizza and pasta Dishes,Roast Dinners, Vegetarian Dishes are all catered for. There, are Daily Specials, eg Lamb. Beef, etc.

I have many fond childhood memories watching Laurel & Hardy films and even the cartoon series. So I was looking forward to visiting this museum. The first section of the museum is dedicated to the biographies of our two stars along with some exhibits such as personal artefacts and costumes. The second section has a stage and cinema that is always showing a Laurel & Hardy film. The last section is a small room crammed full of memorabilia collected by the original owner and a real labour of love.
It’s a niche museum and I admire the dedication of the original owner, collector and fan of Laurel & Hardy. The museum feels a little overloaded with displays and exhibits. All of which are oddly crammed together even though there’s plenty of space. The lighting is muted, possibly because the cinema screen is always showing a film.

After the bad experience at the South Lakes Safari Zoo.
We were staying for a weekend break in Ulverston and we’re looking round for other tourist attractions and came across the Laurel and Hardy Museum! If you’re a fan, it’s definitely a must see. Quite a small museum but for the price you can’t go wrong really. £6 each (£12 for the both of us) and it was quite an enjoyable experience! Definitely hold some memories so I think it was 100% worth it!!! Only thing I can say really: Some areas were quite dark so it was a bit of a struggle to get clear pictures.
The little “cinema” area was GREAT! I would have loved to sit there and watch the screen but would have been nice if there was maybe some refreshments or snacks.
Maybe a bit of money spent on the museum wouldn’t have gone a miss just to structure the museum and the memorabilia in a more presentable way with a bit of a bigger gift shop to be able to take some souvenirs away with you!!! Although. A pleasant experience and would recommend! Easy enough to find with parking up the road.

Hi
Would this be a complete day out or would I have to book something else in the area as well to fill up the day?
Written July 9, 2022
An hour should be enough for the museum .... but the museum also has a bar/cafeteria and shows Laurel and Hardy films on a loop. So in theory, you could spend and entire day watching the films.
Written July 10, 2022
How long will it take to view the museum?

Hi Corky
It would take about an hour for a good look round
