Stonehenge is iconic but Castlerigg actually gives you the space and setting to ponder and appreciate these ancient marvels. Obviously, it can get crowded when bigger groups come by. Despite that, the sense of remoteness you feel there (you're surrounded by rolling hills, trees and,...More

I decided to walk from Keswick. It is a bit of an uphill climb, around 2/3 miles from the town centre. However, what a fabulous place to visit and it is free. The views of the fells around are amazing and one can only imagine...More

Enjoyable spot, and very impressive stone circle. Obviously well known - a lot of people there when we were. Good to find a free attraction without parking machines!

Perhaps we'd been to too many amazing places in England already, but it was a bit disappointing to visit Castlerigg Stone Circles. We finally managed to find it outside Keswick and find a place to park. It was raining so that also might have influenced...More

We took two young teenagers here...and they loved it! It's gorgeous in good weather and brooding when it's rainy. (Wear wellies!) It's a powerful place, if you believe that kind of thing, or just archeologically interesting if you don't.

Highly recommend. Location and views speak for themselves. Smaller than Stonehenge but 1000x more moving and impressive given its location and smaller crowds. A few tips-wear boots/wellies/or shoes you don't mind getting sheep dirt on. The field is an active grazing area. This spot is...More

Hi and the walk from Keswick to Castlerigg is up quite a steep hill so it may be more relaxing for you to take public transport or your own car to the monument. It is possible to park on the side of the road quite close to... More
