The tunnel gives excellent access from Ashbourne Town Centre directly onto the lovely Tissington Trail without having to use the road. There is parking provision at the Ashbourne end of the tunnel and at the other end cycles can be hired and there is a...More
We were staying in Ashbourne for a couple of days and went through the tunnel to have a short walk on part of the Tissington trail. The tunnel is very close to the town centre and is a long tunnel that can be eerie especially...More
Not a lot to say really, it’s a long tunnel. But good fun for kids. You have to do it if you are in the area as there is something special about walking through a long dark tunnel . Great that the line and tunnel...More
The Ashbourne Tunnel links the Sports Centre car park to the start of the 13-mile Islington Trail. The tunnel runs in a straight line and has sounds affects, but when we visited the sounds affects were not working. At the end of the tunnel there...More
Dragged the kids out for a walk on the last day of a little stay in Ashbourne.
I wanted to see the tunnel and they reluctantly agreed to come.
I think they were quite impressed, and enjoyed the acoustics - there were no sounds playing,...More
Little disappointed as I had read about hearing sounds as you walked the tunnel but sadly there weren't any. Nice start to the Tissington Trail, very photogenic too, and yes with a bit of imagination you can see how the trains would make their way...More
Walked from Tissington to Ashbourne along the Tissington trail. Had to walk through the tunnel to get to Ashbourne. Not normally one for going through tunnels but this was a large tunnel and had lighting.
We have been through the tunnel four times now and still not been lucky enough to hear the sounds being played through it. It makes an interesting start to the Tissington Trail and it's fab for children who aren't easily spooked. There is a Sainsbury's...More

We have just come back from visiting Ashbourne and walked along the Tissington trail with our five month old pup on a lead. Obviously at this time of year not too busy so it was pleasant. I can imagine it would be a lot busier early June but still not too bad as the schools have not broken up. There does seem to be an unwritten code of pedestrians on left and cyclists on right. Pedestrians have right of way apparently. As anywhere give and take is the order of the day. You can see far enough ahead to know what's coming. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
