Started as a Blue John mine over 300 years ago, Treak Cliff Cavern continues to mine, process and manufacture ornamental items and jewellery from Blue John Stone today. On the 40 minute guided tour visitors can see the most abundant veins of Blue John Stone in the world and some of the 'finest stalactites' in the Peak District.

Friendly staff, impressive caves and our guide Ben was very knowledgeable. There a a lot of steps to climb before you actually get to the cave reception/entrance and even more inside. Not suitable for wheelchairs or anyone with severe disabilities. Well worth a visit though.

This is one of the best tours underground to see where the Blue John was extracted and eventually turned into attractive ornaments and jewelry The guide was very knowlegeable and entertaining.

An excellent birthday trip for my 9 year old son and his friends. Genuinely interesting with a knowledgeable guide and lovely little gift shop. Recommended

It was a very interesting visit. We took advantage of free parking below the site, took a small walk uphill, not particularly challenging. The history of mining blue John plus the actual product was fascinating. Unexpected I spent 50 gbp for a souvenir blue John....More

Until I visited Treak Cliff Cavern I had never heard of Blue John. Our guide was knowledgeable and I enjoyed this interesting place. Blue John is a very pretty semi-precious stone and yes, a piece of jewelry ended up coming home with me!

Went last week, had a coffee inside before we went on the tour. Well-organised, not much wait. Guide was informative, and the tour involves part-mine and part-cave, lasts about 40 minutes. Good Blue John veins and stalactite formations. It wasn't the hugest cave/mine but that's...More

To access it's a very steep path with s gross isn't of about 1:3. The path is about 500 yards long. That just to get to the entrance. Definitely not a place to visit unless you are able to walk up and down steep inclines.

I took my Border Collie on a tour and there was a Yorkshire Terrier also in the group. They were both fine but our tour guide did say they've had dogs howl the whole way round as don't like the dark and the water dripping... More
