Overview
More
The National Forest is one of England’s most ambitious environmental projects. Across parts of Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire, 200 square miles are being transformed, blending ancient woodland with new planting to create a new national Forest. There is a wealth of choice for great days out or short breaks with bustling attractions, gentle walking and brilliant activities. In less than twenty years, one of the least wooded parts of the country has been transformed. Around 8 million trees have been planted, trebling the woodland cover and creating habitats for wildlife and a beautiful landscape for people to enjoy. The ultimate goal is for woodland to cover around a third of the Forest area and to link the ancient forests of Charnwood and Needwood. The gentle undulating landscape is perfect for walking, cycling and horse-riding. And through the creation of new habitats, The National Forest is an ideal location for bird and wildlife watching. From watersports to wildlife watching, cycling to craft centres and loads of wet weather options too, The National Forest really does have something for everyone. And in this ever-changing landscape as the Forest grows, one thing is guaranteed, there is always something new to see.

Not enough trees to make it a National Forest. Some great walks though or trails to go mountain biking on or walk the dogs or ride the horses. Most of the trails are on ex-train lines but you wouldn't know. I know because I remember...More

Lots and lots of walks and scenery. Good for biking also. Fantastic place if you have a dog or just fancy a walk in the fresh air. We are lucky to live round the corner from such wonderful countryside.

My family live in a village in the National Forest area. I love to visit. It is a beautiful area with lots of little picturesque villages, country pubs and places to visit.

The National Forest is very young. However, it is well planned with the YHA just next to it, Adventure play ground, lake... quite a few things to do with young family. The walks are easy grade as well. You can do short walks or longer...More

Miles upon Mile of woodlands make up this vast modern forest. Look carefully and you can still find elements of the industrial history that has made way for this forest. Coal mines, clay pits and potteries strewed this area from the 18th century, now you...More
