With its headquarters in the fine old Peak District market town of Wirksworth, the Ecclesboume Valley line, at nine miles, is Derbyshire's longest heritage railway. The line runs through some of the most pleasant scenery in the White Peak, from its joint station with the main line at Duffield to its northern terminus at Ravenstor, close to the High Peak Trail and the National Stone Centre.

The line provides services mainly operated by heritage diesel railcars, with four trains a day on summer weekends and on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in the high summer. The timetable is designed to connect with East Midlands Trains' services to and from Derby and Nottingham. Visitors may wish to take advantage of a 'zigzag choo choo' all Day Rover Ticket issued by the railway and Trent Barton providing an excellent opportunity for discount travel through the beautiful derbyshire countryside by bus and rail. Steam hauled services are also operated at peak periods, please call us to check what is running.

If you would prefer to see the line from the Driver's cab or realise a childhood dream by taking the controls of one of our heritage steam or diesel locomotives then you can book that day to remember direct on our website. We offer a range of experiences to suit any occasion and budget.

Went from duffield station, free parking but do drive through to station car park, if you have time have a stroll along footpath to a pleasant nature reserve by the river. A coffee in the waiting room and a chat to friendly staff. Pleasant ride through countryside, 2hrs at wirksworth a stroll through the town, take in the church and... More

We visited and had a lovely, relaxing day travelling from Wirksworth, which itself is a gem of a town not to be missed, to Duffield and back again. The staff were friendly and very informative. The volunteers are brilliant And I would recommend a day out here to anyone.

Having visited EVR a couple of years ago with Her Indoors I decided to visit again with my colleague (Train Enthusiasts..No Not anoraks) via train from Birmingham to Duffield and then onto Wirksworth. The 30 mins journey is enjoyable and also allows a couple of hours in Wirksworth (Well worth a lunch (£13.95...Three course) at Le Mistral). All the volunteers... More

This was my first visit to one of the more recent heritage lines. During the journey the volunteer guard gave us a brief history of the line, which made the trip more interesting. Surprised that the passenger service ceased in 1947 but in view of the amount of housing in the area thought that if it had survived longer it... More

This is a very well organised heritage railway, ideal for a trip up the picturesque valley between Duffield and Wirksworth. There are choices for visiting Wirksworth and the National Stone Centre and this is a great day out.

Every time I'm back in Wirksworth for a visit I always end up here with my nephew. We have been visiting Ecclesbourne Raileay since he was 2 and always have a good time, from the Santa specials and the special weekends. The one he loves is the vintage bus weekend. Staff are always very friendly and helpful. A great place... More

Fantastic visit to the railway today. Kids loved seeing Santa and the sing along with Santa's helpers was fab! The gifts were lovely and the jazz band at the station was inspired! Altogether a great experience. Will definitely be back next year. Thank you! 😃
