Recognised as one of Australia's most unusual attractions, this world class...

Recognised as one of Australia's most unusual attractions, this world class natural history museum gives visitors a very exciting glimpse at what happened millions of years ago beneath our earth's crust. Rene Boissevain is a man with a passion. He has spent a lifetime travelling to every corner of the world to collect crystallised mineral specimens, gemstones, fossils and rocks. He searches only for the best - the most perfect, the most extraordinary, the most valuable, the rarest and the biggest. To house his growing collection of more than 600 individual pieces, Rene has built 250 m2 of tunnels and grottos for you to explore. Visitors are given a helmet and a catalogue to identify the specimens and explore the caves unguided. This virtual cave gives the feeling of finding these natural formations yourself. Carefully positioned and delicately lit, you are free to discover in your own time and encouraged to touch and photograph the crystals. Open your mind and put all expectations aside, this is not your average museum...

I visited the Crystal Caves recently as part of a small group. This is a wonderful place to visit in Atherton - you are taken all over the world as you find beautiful gemstones in all sorts of nooks and crannies. Take your time - there is so much to see. The aquarium is a beautiful addition to the caves.... More

My almost 4 yr old absolutely loved donning his mining helmet with light and heading into the cave. Awesome display of many types of crystals. Unique experience including the world's largest amethyst geode - the Empress of Uruguay. Unique gift ideas. Kids under 4 free. Will be back whenever we visit The Tablelands.

My children are very young and enjoyed the quick experience. Please note this cave is artificial, and we were most certainly overcharged for the maximum of ten minutes it took to see everything. I raised my concern politely with the young girl on the counter, who said "okay" and walked away. My kids enjoyed it, which was the most important... More

If you are in Atherton High street you really should pop in and have a look at this shop and museum. All but the the aesthetically challenged will find the experience seeing these amazing gems something to remember - even if they actually come from Mexico and not Australia. And the big geode in the advertising is reputedly the largest... More

Took the 3 kids along after hearing great things about it. What a great experience! Engaging and informative from the 3yo to the adults. Give yourself a good few hours and take your time, there were so many objects/ specimens to learn about or admire and if you don't stop to look around, you will miss something, there was so... More

We all really enjoyed it. Man made cave with his personal gemstone crystal collection. The largest amethyst was huge. The kids loved exploring and being able to touch them. You get little headlamps to wear so you can see. Definitely worth the drive. We enjoyed it. Also a shop there that you spend too much money in afterwards as so... More

I didn't really know what to expect being man made and in a shop but it was a good experience. Kids can be let loose to touch which was great and they loved the experience
