Having been taught in school in NZ in the 1960's about the amazing ventures of Captain Cook, and his misadventure with the Great Barrier reef and being forced to repair HMB Endeavour at Cooktown, I had to make it my goal to visit Cooktown. Thus...More

My wife's family dates back to 1854 in Cooktown and these guys no it all. Just amazing how they have amassed so much info about everything Cooktown and its surrounds from the very beginning. The best historical society we have visited.

This was a good visit for an hour to read about the people that have lived in Cooktown and the history of the town through cyclones and World War 2. I was amazed how the place was evacuated in the war as they thought the...More

Well worth the hour...More

We couldn't believe how 1 small room could hold so much information, and the guy behind the desk has so much local knowledge and is so passionate about Cooktown. Definitely worth taking a look around.
