We basically stumbled on this location on our visit to Cooktown. We had some spare time and were advised that the lagoon was close to get to by car and is open to the public for free and generally should visit during daylight hours. So we did. An awesome place to see, feel and observe. Very enjoyable.

This little known lagoon is worth a visit for birdlife and wonderful lilies. I am afraid the heat and humidity got to me so we only stayed an hour.

A short drive from Cooktown along highway. The lagoon is a great place for short walk to view and learn more about birdlife. Nice location with picnic tables and good parking.

We have been to Cooktown before, however this is the 1st time we have visited Keating's Lagoon - it was a very enjoyable walk/stroll, just stopping and looking along the way. We both enjoyed our experience, in fact we still talk about the birds and the beautiful waterlilies stretching for as far a the eye can see. We are both... More

Beautiful scene with lilies on the lagoon and plenty of birds. However spray well for mosquitoes as they were big and plentiful when we visited.

Fabulous walkways, the habitat has amazing birdlife and plants. It is well worth exploring this amazing lagoon, located so close to Cooktown.

We splashed by Keating’s Lagoon on our way to Cooktown just over a week ago. A very nice area, formerly part of the river but now just a beautiful wetlands with lots of birds, mosquitoes, leprechauns and crocs! Watch out for crocs, I almost stepped on a little one (3footer) and he tried to take my shoe but we scared... More

Keatings Lagoon is an old loop of the Annan River, now a peaceful spot that is home to all sorts of birds that I can't name (not good with birds!). Very pretty and you can take some lovely photographs, but don't linger at the water's edge - there are serious crocs around. Well cared for with a path of ~700m... More

Well done walkways and bird lookout; not much buird activity when we walked (11AM beginning of April) but trails well done. It is a quick hike from the car park, worth a short detour to see the lagoon. 15-20 minutes; longer if you will sit and look/wait on birds Wear repellent! ;)

Even though it was the end of the dry season and its location is superb , I was totally appalled at the lack of wildlife evident at this wetland. The mosquitoes were some of the most ferocious insects that I have ever encountered and the abundance of juvenile and adult cane toads was disturbing. I endeavoured to try and visit... More
