Or 3rd visit to Winton through Summer found us in 48⁰ temps, so we decided to enjoy the car aircon and visit the National Park. We've experienced all the Winton attractions.
This National Park is absolutely amazing, from the beautiful gorge, the cool water holes, stunning landscape and homestead and farming reality. We spent all of the afternoon visiting the various locations including some if there camping sites

Loved this place! We did the Route of the River Gum circuit, then also went to the Homestead and up to Scrammy Gorge and Scrammy Lookout (you need a 4WD for this part) but the rest you could easily do in a normal car (assuming it hasn't been raining). Lots of roos, wallabys and Wallaroos in the park, a few brolgas as well and so much bird life. Engine Hole and Skull Hole were interesting stops as well. A highlight of our trip to Winton.

As we were unable to book into the caravan park in Winton we drove out to Bladensburg NP for 2 nights. What a find! Driving in late afternoon we were greeted by all the wildlife. We found a spot at the Surprise creek campsite and settled in to enjoy the silence and birdlife. Staying 2 nights was not long enough! We did visit Bough shed hole with it's beautiful white trunked river gums and birdlife.
Walked around Skull hole and the Bladensburg homestead (Ranger station) and called in to Engine hole.
It was the serenity of the area that captivated us - watching the sunset and rise and enjoying the sparkling stars.

Great spot, good swimming hole with rope swing but too hot! Go in the cooler months!! We camped for one night only, enjoyed it and saw amd heard loads of wildlife. Road to park was not paved, but driveable with normal 2 wheel drive as well. Bring your own water and food though!

Having visited and camped at quite a few Australian national parks by now, Bladensburg N.P. was lacklustre in comparison. While I understand government funding is limited; and larger, more 'famous' parks may get the lion's share of funds, Bladensburg may prove worthwhile if more development was put in to develop better infrastructure.
For starters, the road leading into the park becomes unsealed several kilometres in - without any warning. We had a 4-wheel drive so it wasn't a problem, but as it was wet season, the track soon turned into muddy washouts in places, and there were large potholes to be avoided.
There was a self-drive tour map which we followed. Although it was helpful in locating where we were, ironically many of the descriptions began with "This creek/waterhole/etc is a popular swimming and picnic spot." In reality, the entire site would be deserted, and the water would look coffee-like and uninviting to say the least.
On the upside, we had the park all to ourselves and countless kangaroos and wallabies. I counted 2 other vehicles the whole time we were there (one was a service vehicle). If you are an avid roo-spotter, this is the place to come. The mammals were mostly hiding under trees and trying to stay out of the rain, allowing us good views from our car.
The only spot of any interest was Skull Hole, at which we spent the longest time (20 mins). There were mud swallow nests on the ceilings of caves here, although bats were now the new residents. There's a small freshwater creek and it makes for a more interesting spot than the majority of the park, which is mainly mesa scrub.
You are allowed to camp at Bladensburg in designated spots, and one could see that some work has been done to demarcate campsites in one area. But unfortunately the landscape, lack of truly interesting sites and under-deveoloped infrastructure all work against tourists being attracted to this park.

We stopped at the Tourist Information in Winton to get information on this Park. The self drive leaflet is well designed and took us to the original homestead, shearing shed and to the campsite by the river. The campsite has a new toilet which was quite clean and the river flowed by the campsite. The campsites were well set out and spacious. We had a wonderfullyquiet evening with a beautiful sunset and sunrise, as well as a starry, moonlit night. What a wonderful outback experience!

We camped at Bough Shed for a couple of nights. The birdlife was great and the campsite was very quiet and peaceful. It was close enough to town that we could go for a swim at the public pool and see other sights without any hassle. We drove up to Scrammy's Look out, which is very worthwhile if you have a high-clearance vehicle. The Gorge was amazing and we would have liked more time to explore but it was getting too hot and windy to make that seem sensible. People who live in these places are tough!

Really interesting trip, we did the short circuit which took us just under 2 hours with all the stops at watering holes, watching Kangaroos and also Emus. Bumpy dusty tracks but worth it.

One of Queensland's best Outback National Parks. Great that it is only a short drive out of Winton. It offers good driving tracks and the chance to see wildlife at its best. I was lucky enough to see the largest red kangaroo I have seen in my life and is an experience I will never forget. Good interpretation at the homestead as well.

This was a very unspoilt, quiet camping experience. With only toilets, you need to carry your own water. This park has a lot to offer but signage on the way into the park could be a little clearer. Tip: Collect a map of the park from Tourist Information in Winton before you head out there.

Are campervans (small 4WD type) allowed at the Bough Shed camp site? - I see trailer campers are and I can't see why campervans aren't although the parks website says tents and trailer tents only.

Hi, Is Bladensburg NP suitable for caravan camping?
Written January 12, 2015
We did not visit the designated camp sites, and only went as far as the homestead. You could certainly get a conventional vehicle that far and we did see caravans camped on the way. The info centre in Winton will advise as after rain it could be very tricky getting out to the NP.
