Though slightly expensive ($30 ea, return from victor harbor to goolwa), it was a great experience with absolutely spectacular views. The trains are in great condition and look fantastic. The best views are definitely between Victor Harbor and Port Elliot, so if you were looking to save money, I would suggest just going via these two stations and not all... More

Sadly, I cannot rate the experience as anything but poor. We expected to travel on the steam ranger and instead we were ushered into one of the old red hen trains. Having travelled to and from school in one of these trains for many years, meant this experience was nothing new. To add insult to injury, we were then expected... More

We caught the Cockle Train from Port Elliot to Victor Harbour it is a wonderful way to see more of the surrounding area. We spoke to a couple of lovely lady volunteers who filled us in on the history of the line and sold us our tickets, once on the train we met another volunteer who was passionate about his... More

For such a simple idea, The Cockle Train is truly an icon for Victor Harbor. I never get tired of it, each trip to Victor means a ride on the train. Maybe it takes me back to my childhood, or maybe just the look on my 2-year-olds face when she sees it coming, whatever the reason it's surely worth the... More

A great day out along the railway coastline from Port Elliott to Goolwa. This beautiful old steam train was a pleasure to ride on, as we were surrounded by old world charm with wooden paneling, booth compartments and sliding windows that brought in the sea breeze. My family and pet puppy Phoebe enjoyed our ride through the coastal towns and... More

This a short (half hour each way) train trip between Goolwa and Victor Harbor, in a lovingly restored train. Part of the trip goes right next to the beach with magnificent views. When we went the other day it was hauled by the 620-class Duke of Edinburgh, a magnificent steam engine. Fares are $30 per adult or $71 for a... More

Riding the cockle train is a great experience for all ages. Beautiful scenery along the half hour journey between Goolwa and Victor Harbor. Maintained and staffed fully by passionate volunteers, who do a wonderful job. May seem pricey, but understanding the upkeep it makes it all worth it. Definitely recommend if you are visiting this way.

The old steam engines and carriages are beautiful. A slow trip by the sea via four stops and back is immensely popular at summer holiday time. Do yourself a favour. Also dig up cockles at Goolwa for Fettuccine al Vongole - and swim in azure waters of Horseshoe Bay at Port Eliot. Fish n chips by the sea there too.... More

A true highlight taking you back to days gone by. Two different engines alternate. Steam most of the day. Only the last one might be diesel if they need to rest the steam one at the other end. Lovely seats, authentic decor and original windows. Ocean views for much of the trip. Only $30 per person makes it great value... More
