Superb wines in a relaxed, picturesque space. The old 1850s building has been maintained to keep its original character. The atmosphere in entering is one of relaxed cheer, from both patrons and staff. We were welcomed warmly and settled into a tasting (no charge to taste!) Whether you liked each wine or not, you cannot fault the quality. We happened to like them all! Just top class reds. Thankfully they post interstate. The staff add to the experience with their friendly, helpful manner and a touch of humour. Sitting around the rustic table, we looked out onto the lush grass and then out over the gorge beyond. Combination; attractive space, welcoming staff and superb wines.

This was our favourite cellar door experience in McLaren Vale.
Excellent red wines, and the most beautiful small winery in a stunning location. Very friendly winemaker and staff. Loved it!

Samuel's Gorge produces some of the finest wines in the McLaren Vale. Every time we are visiting the region, we make sure to do a tasting. In fact, we have been members of the Samuel's Gorge wine club for many years, so it feels a bit like visiting family - no wonder the wine club is called La Famiglia Grappa. The wines are absolutely superb, as is the setting for the wine tasting: you are looking across an amazing valley, sitting under the grape wines in front of an old stone cottage. It honestly does not get any better than that. The Samuel's Gorge staff is amazing. They love their wines and they love sharing the wines and as much of the stories and history of the wines as you may want to know about with you. Most days you will find the winemaker Justin roaming around, his hands stained from the red wine grapes. He loves people as much as he loves his wine and will happily have a chat with you and share one of the other anecdote of his winemaking adventures. Justin is proud to be making wine for the people. As a result he is also one of the few in the McLaren Vale who do not charge for the tasting. But, honestly, anyone not grabbing a six-pack on the way out would be mad. You can never have too much stock of Samuel's Gorge wines.

We visited on a Friday afternoon (dropped in when passing by). We tried 5 of their wines whilst sitting in front of the fire on a cool afternoon. The wines, which are all red, were very good. The tasting itself was free, which is a pleasant change from current practice. The tasting came with some written notes and a commentary. Our favourite was the Graciano but we also enjoyed the Grenache (and the Mosaic). The wines themselves are not cheap ($40+/bottle) but you can also buy by the glass.

Went for a tasting session in this great and relaxed setting. Friendly and knowledgeable staff who share their knowledge and passion without the hard sell. Will be one of your favourites.

Came here on a recommendation and it did not disappoint. We enjoy the smaller wineries, has a much more natural vibe than the commercial ones. Great tasting reds (that's all they do) and a dog to play with in between tastings.

A couple of people recommended we visit this winery and I'm so glad we did! While the tasting is in a more casual setting, it was still very attentive. The view is stunning overlooking the gorge, very Spanish. The staff were very friendly, including the bulldog that greets you! It really was such a great visit. The wine was very nice and bought some to take home which I can't wait to open.

Great experience! The tasting is for free and there’s a nice variety of good quality wines. We loved the view and the two guys that took turns in explaining the wines. Both very nice and friendly and willing to answer all of our questions.

The only down side is that we were very much looking forward to get some food but unfortunately there’s no kitchen. Could have done some better research from our side..
