The tasting was informative, well-managed and reasonably generous. But how can you buy their wines without tasting, and why is the tasting fee not waived after buying $140 of wine? This was a first and left a very sour taste - not the lasting taste we wanted.

Located ten minutes north of McLaren Vale in a lovely, rural setting Chapel Hill has lovely grounds and wonderful buildings, including the Chapel.
Not so busy, it offers a relaxing wine tasting with knowledgeable, personable hosts. The wines were good - we bought.
An excellent overall experience.

Chapel Hill Winery is extraordinary and the very best winery that we experienced in all of McLaren Vale! We live very near an internationally known California wine region so we were particularly interested in seeing what Australia had to offer. Our server Shelley was amazing and her positive and cheerful attitude, extensive wine knowledge, and friendly manner were very much appreciated and valued by our group. CHW surpassed our already high expectations and I recommend it enthusiastically!

Went to do the broad church tasting with husband and other family. I’m currently pregnant but the tasting was booked and paid for. The staff walked past me after serving the whole table except me, never said a word to ask me if I wanted the wine or if I wanted a soft drink. When they came round for the next tasting I asked them to pour the wine for me (3 times I asked) and they looked at me, said I wasn’t drinking and walked away without serving me.
Wine tasting can be done by sip and spit. I’m absolutely disgusted by the way I was treated and the judgement from the staff just from looking at me.
I left having paid for a service I was not given and feeing completely excluded from the activity and not of my choice. A very poor experience.

The tasting. I sat back because I had to drive, but my ‘comrade’ enjoyed at least 12 ‘sips’. She reckoned the various wines were very good, although a couple did not rank too well - BUT - our host Gary or as he said ‘call me Gazza’ was fantastic and is no doubt a great asset for CHW. We enjoyed his company and repartee immensely. So a few bottles were purchased for later consumption and when I don’t have to drive.

A beautiful and well maintained winery but the wines open for tasting were not, in my view, the wines that they are not really known for.
There were five staff that I saw in the cellar door but none of them wanted to serve us, preferring instead to stand around their computers. Our brief tasting took well over an hour and our group left wondering why we bothered.
The day was only saved by a last minute offering of a wine that had been intended for export to China and was now being offered locally at a good price.

Felt like I was drinking with friends. Reasonable tasting fee (although in general if you purchase anywhere this should be waived).
Lovely knowledgeable friendly staff. Not too pushy.
I would rate their Shiraz better than Penfolds.
We were even supplied a small taste of Shiraz grapes off the vine - so yummy and added a spark.

We had the most amazing time at Chapel Hill, Dave looked after us the whole time and was incredible with not only his knowledge of wine but also his rapport. We are small group and were made to feel just as special as the bigger groups there and before we knew it it was time to leave. You will lose yourself in the incredible wines, scenery and ambience. Thankyou Dave and thankyou Chapel hill for having us.

The wine server for our table was fantastic. But on the other table, the other server was laughing and being very loud while serving her customers and we couldn't hear our server at all about what wine we were drinking. The other table was not drinking wine at all but talking and laughing, not sitting down but blocking the glass door. I assumed they were all friends (including the server) as the wine tasting servings were over half a glass each.

Spent an impromptu hour wine tasting and buying with a friend. The staff was knowledgeable with a good sense of humour. Very informative about the wines too.
At the back of the winery is a nice little walk trail, it took us 40minutes and stops at a stunning lookout overlooking the gorge. It was a nice little morning outing.
