About
A Christmas Story House, now restored to its movie splendor, is open year round to the public for tours. Directly across the street from the house is the official A Christmas Story House Museum, which features original props, costumes and memorabilia from the film, as well as hundreds of rare behind-the-scenes photos. Among the props and costumes are the toys from the Higbee's window, Randy's snowsuit, the chalkboard from Miss Shields' classroom and the family car. After reliving A Christmas Story at Ralphie's house don't forget to visit the museum gift shop for your own Major Award Leg Lamp and other great movie memorabilia.

This is definitely a must do experience if you are in the area of Cleveland, Ohio. We have always watched the movie Christmas Story House; but wanted to see the actual property. We were super excited to be able to go and see the house in person. Definitely worth the trip, great price to go and do it, great muesuem/everything that goes along with it. Loved it!

You can book the home online, which is the quickest and easiest way. When you arrive, check in time is 3PM but if the loft is ready, the staff will give you access. Before checking in, make time for for the free tour tickets....up to six. Get six so you have an extra ticket for memories. The check in is in the gift shop. The process is clunky, but it gets done
Staff member will take you over to the rear of the house. Park between the bumpus house so you are closer to the side door. The stairs go straight up to a landing. There is a good sized kitchen and an access door to the main house. Access is given after last tours. Upstairs is a landing area with a pull out couch and tv etc, bathroom and a bedroom. Sleeps up to six with two beds being ralphie and Randy's beds.
People will come up to the house all night so be ready for that. Also, know people will watch you in the house if you are downstairs.
Having said that, watch the movie, take pictures, Reinact scenes and enjoy the street and home.

It was just like if you were in the movie with Ralphie and Flick! “Don’t shoot your eye out!” Awesome!

Very misleading. Oh, it’s fun alright but hopefully everyone is informed that statements like “ sleep in Ralphie’s and Randy’s bed” is misleading.... those aren’t their beds.
The house was completely gutted and was re- constructed to look like what was in the movie. Not much of the inside of this house was in the movie. Maybe bringing the crate up to the front door, maybe a shot where the old man is across the street directing his wife where to put the lamp in the front window.
The car they claim was in the movie on their premises is not the car that was in the movie.
Few items in the house were in the movie. Few movie scenes were shot in Cleveland.
I’m not trying to be a Scrooge here but witnessing what is being told here is disappointing.
The original employees who lifted this place up and spent endless hours making it a success while the owner was out of town, are no longer there. None of them.
Oh, we could tell stories alright....
I’m very glad the house is a success but it came at a great cost if anyone has a conscience...

This little house is adorable! It's hard to believe it was the main home in a major Christmas movie. The tour is only 45 minutes or so, but it does a great job with the history of the home and the unknown stories behind the scenes.

The area includes the house and other nearby related shopping opportunities. The streets are very narrow and congested at this time of year. We were going to tour the house but couldn't find a close place to park.

We really enjoyed the tour of the Christmas Story house. It's exactly like in the movies. You get to see the red Rider BB gun,leg lamp, bunny suit etc. If a fan of the movie you'll love this tour.

Lots of memorabilia, definitely cool to see in-person, whether you are a fan (or not) of the movie. The tour guides provide plenty of "behind the scenes" facts that make you want to re-watch the movie immediately after visiting (or even before if you are making plans to visit). Heck, you can even rent the place and spend the night if you and your family desire. I would recommend that you don't rush but take your time and soak it all up.

Fun tour for fans of the classic movie. Really need to do better with the tree (too small and not decorated correctly) and put it in the correct corner.

I believe that there is a weekly rate. I think they said you could rent it on Christmas Eve and then you would have access to the house for a longer period on Christmas Day.

They have a website, I'd look there. We paid one price and saw house and museum. Garage is out front of the building and doesn't cost anything. HUGE gift shop with lots of stuff.

I'm confused about the parking situation. At a friend's recommendation, we plan to visit this spring. However they told us "not to get ripped off like they did paying to park in some guys yard" (they said they went about 3 years ago) So what's the true story and real situation with parking? Is it free? And if so, where?

Hi! There is parking in a parking lot that they own, which is free (but there’s not much of it), or you can pay in other lots, not owned by them) and have to pay. Hope that helped!

There is limited free parking next to the house. If no spaces are available, park on any of the streets around the house for free.
Does this cost to view?

The cost is $12 to enter the house & museum. You can however walk around outside the house & wander around the gift shop. The gift shop, house, & museum are 3 different buildings

Well you posted to get an answer but you pretty much answered your own post. YES, it is a great movie and a great house to visit. We loved it. Don't forget the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame too.

Can someone recommend a hotel to stay at close to the Christmas story house. Looking to stay near the Christmas story house and museum.

The Christmas story house is in a residential area which is called Tremont. It is being redeveloped. We found it safe and some nice restaurants nearby. Use Yelp. Getting to the neighborhood requires passing thru some not great areas. Look for hotels in downtown Cleveland or the West Side. Red Roof Inns and Hampton Inns are available. Enjoy Cleveland, museums, and the zoo will add to your trip.
