There are some interesting cultural artefacts and models. But there is not material or guidance made available. It’s
Really government run in that terrible sense of the word. It takes less than half an hour to cover so not a big constraint on time. Plus it’s just five rupees to get in

Capt. Williamson Sangma State Museum is functioning under the Department of Arts and Culture, Government of Meghalaya. It displays culture, history and lifestyle of various tribes of this region. Here one can see dresses, ornaments, utensils, musical instruments, handicrafts and traditional weapons of different tribes like Garo, Khasi and Jaintia.

We had visited this government museum during our sightseeing in Shillong. Entry tickets to the museum are very cheap - only 5 rupees per person. The museum is well maintained and showcases the culture & history of Meghalaya. There are many galleries showcasing models dressed in traditional attire representing different tribes of Meghalaya e.g. Khasis, Jaintis and Garos. We saw a gallery showcasing beautiful oil paintings and another gallery showcasing musical instruments used by people in the North East.

It's more of a gallery than a museum. It has more of cultural artifacts of the indigenous tribes than historic antiques. There are specific galleries dedicated to tribal cultures and mannequins dressed in tribal attire.
Not worth visiting, the Don Bosco Centre for indigenous culture is a better place comparatively to learn about the local culture

I'm a Japanese learning India.
Meghalaya has become my 26th state having visited.

Besides travelling in Meghalaya, visiting this museum has become a good learning about Meghalaya.
One of the most impressive learning for me is that I've visited only 2 out of 7 districts of Meghalaya, East Khasi Hills and Ri-bhoi even though I thought I took drives around in the vast areas.

I would like to see more districts.

Some culture of Meghalaya is introduced nicely.

For those interested in ethnic tribal culture and tradition this Govt. Museum under the control of Art and Culture Department offers insights to the lifestyle of the people. This museum is in the State Central Library complex where monuments for the great patriots of the state had been erected besides the statue of Smt. Indira Gandhi and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

It is considered as one of the centre for studies into our history and culture as well as for preserving our rich cultural heritage that is now undergoing tremendous pressure in the face of contacts with various cultures both from the East and the West.

I alongwith my family visit this museum in evening. A nice place free of sound nusance. The building is in 2 floor.Meghalaya State Museum is a frequented tourist site that exhibits vast collection of artefacts of tribal era and a collection of ancient scriptures. The museum houses a habitat section displaying living places of tribes, instruments used for day-to-day activities such as hunting and fishing. Travellers can also witness weapons, transportation equipment, agricultural tools and household articles like pots, spoons, water jug, tobacco box, baskets.

We were so pleased to see displays lifestyle and cultural diversity of various tribes, especially the Khasi tribe in various sections. Furthermore, visitors can gather information regarding history, culture and social structures of the ancient tribes.
