This place offers a sweeping vista of Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya, India.
Point is located at 6450 ft altitude above mean sea level, which gives a spectacular bird's eye view of Shillong.
Shillong is one of the wettest places in India.
The city looks most attractive from here only when the sky is clear.
There are many local shops. They provide local food, traditional clothes, souvenirs.
There is a binocular, which provides ease in viewing the city.
Think about having noodles and tea at high altitude in the lap of clouds, surrounded by mountains.
It was an amazing experience.
It was the first destination, I visited while exploring Meghalaya.

Visited during June amidst rains, so the view was not clear. Between, I felt that is an average place like any other point in Hill station where you get to see the city.
For this place, u have to get out of your cab and take other taxis as this is military area and only those cars can take you to the point.
Also, note that you need to keep ID cards with you if you are visiting this place. The ID cards are needed for children also else they wont allow you to enter the spot.
You can skip this place if you have less time and want to explore some other place.

For Shillong view point you need to leave your private vehicles at the ticket counter and then take the local designated taxis to the view point which is in a restricted area where foreigners are not allowed. You also need to show your ID cards before entering. When we visited there were a lot of cloud, even though at the ticket counter area the weather was clear, so we could not see any view. The telescope was also closed. Also one can see lot of butterflies in the fields on the way to the spot.

Best way to see the entire Shillong city from the top. A good place for photographers and to have a pleasant time. Only private vehicles are allowed as you need to pass through the air force area. No photography in the restricted area.

Just recently i visited shillong had great time.but our driver one Rahul dutta #8794099364 we hired made fool out of us n charged us so much extra without much sightseeing coz it was raining.we really felt bad coz first he was behaving so good n later he started showing his abusive nature.plz kindly make sure to take local tribal guide. as we wr two girls n helpless so we had to give him every penny he asked for and he got very bad driving skill. Don't book him if u don't want to ruin your vacation.

Shillong is the capital city of Meghalaya. Me and my wife went there last year. Very clean city. You will not get Ola/Uber in Shillong. Only way to travel is local cab service. They can charge you a lot. Best option is that to visit the Meghalaya tourism office and get a cab. Dont ask your hotel to arrange a cab.

Hi friends out there,
Last week I had a wonderful solo drive from Aizawl to Shillong. It was an unplanned move altogether. I started off early morning and reached silchar town bordering Mizoram and Assam by 10 am. The land of the hills (Mizoram) is lively, fresh and unexplored. The entire road from Aizawl to silchar (NH 54) is along the ridge line and one can see beautiful valleys and hills all along the drive. Once you cross a place called Vairengte, then the plains of Assam welcomes you. The road from silchar to shillong is again hilly and is not maintained. there are huge poth holes and u may get lost. However the scenic beauty remains all along the drive. On the way you will come across a blue river and its such a wonder. However, all my thrills were diminished when a local BSF guy told me the blue colour is due to the chemicals from a nieghbouring cement factory. I don't know if its true.
Further when you go you will be welcomed by the cool and enchanting weather of Meghalaya. road is quite good and newly constructed. one can suddenly feel the change in weather and its awesome. A word of caution carry at least a jacket and be self contained in terms of food and water during the journey., you will surprised that no shops or less all along the road.
After a long and thrilling drive(little tired too) finally I hit the city of shillong(The Scotland of East) by around 6 pm(covered all most 400 km hill drive solo) and it was peak traffic time and sun all most set.
Gps was my guide and I drove straight to the Military Holiday Home(privilege) the most wonderful place to stay I bet in shillong city. I was welcomed by the staff and moved to my room. it was again a serene place filled all around with distinct and rare flowering plants well laid out.(wooww)
I had a short break of one hour and then by 7.30 pm I took a walk to the famous police bazar(PB). I would say its a busy market with a-z items and the best part beautiful women all around(Men will b men).
Ok next day as planned in the previous night I visited some local attractions. U Must see Elephant falls for sure. and there is Shillong peak which will give u a glimpse of the city from top. also explored some local attractions but the thing to mention here is the best of shillong is its beautiful women and fashion and the climate.
My next day trip is to Cherrapunji(Sohra) the wettest place. But for now byeee

though most travelers/ tour operators list this as one of the must dos while in Shillong, there is nothing extraordinary about this place. it gets very very crowded there with lot of shops selling everything, not only typical Khasi stuff.

Hi, I have read through the various reviews of this attraction here and one reviewer mentions that the gates close at around 15:30 hrs for entry of visitors. Yet another person says that Shillong looks beautiful under lights from this view point (I guess this person meant evenings - late evenings) I would like to know as to when does the gate open for entry of tourists? And when does one need to vacate the place after entering before 15:30 hrs, as one mentions? And any entry fees? Has anyone visited this place early mornings? Like 6 am or 7 am? This will help me a ton in planning my itinerary. Many have mentioned about Maggi and other stuff available to eat. Any outlets that offer other than Maggi? Like Aloo Parathas, Poori Subji, Sandwiches, Eggs, Bread Butter etc? Thanks in advance to all.
