We started in the morning around 8 from Bhubaneswar and it took 2 hours to reach the Puri. Since it was Sunday, there was good crowd at Puri Temple. Puri Temple is one of the four Dham and it was my first dham visit. It was quite hot and there was quite a bit of queue. Mobile phones aren’t allowed inside. After the darshan we had khichudi bhog and then visited other small temples inside the complex. There is one famous Shaktipeeth as well inside the complex - Bimla Mata. So don’t forget to cover that. I felt management of crowd could have been better. The experience was quite spiritual and divine though.

Jagannath temple is one must to visit .
It is the only temple which has lord Krishna,Subhadra and Balram (idol of brother sister ) together .
You surely going to get a memorable experience once you visit there.

It is said you only get there if the lord wishes.
Also the prasad is made in a unique way and is very delicious.
There are many stories and mystical things about the temple which you get to know once you visit there.

Also do not forget to get the famous prasad khaja.

Also there are many other temples of various deities inside which you should do darshan of.Each of them have their individual stories.

We were planning a trip with 2 young kids to Jagannath Puri right after new year . I went through 100+ reviews and was petrified to see the 2 points mentioned in almost each of the review
one was the mismanagement of the crowd and the second one was Pandas giving grief .
Someone gave us the contact of Mr. Prakash and he met us right at the entry door . We could see 'sea of crowd' ahead of us and quickly grabbed our little ones tightly and joined the queue.
Prakash ji held on to 4 of us everytime the crowd went crazy and were pushing each other . He took us through a faster way and exactly knew the tricks and tweaks how to avoid injury and keep moving.
On a very crowded evening, our Darshan was done within 45 mins . He also explained about the deities and insisted we stayed another 15 mins (right infront of the deities) for the Aarti . The crowd was enormous so he kept us safe and we got to attend the Aarti as well.
He then dropped us until the autorickshaw, throughout with a brimming smile and beautiful aura .
Whenever we will remember Jagannath Puri , we will certainly remember our Panda 'Prakash ji'.
Usually I do not write reviews but for the sake of people who are planning to visit Jagannath puri soon , this will be helpful. With his permission am sharing his number +91-8114381465 .

Jai Jagannath......Visiting the mandir and doing the darshan was divine. I can understand the crowd of pilgrims but what I cannot understand is the lack of proper steps taken by the authorities to prevent serious injuries from the crushing crowd. My legs buckled at one point but Thank god that there were 2-3 young guys who protected me from being crushed by this mad, rushing crowd. All these temples are making so much money so they are not short of resources then why do they treat our people like cattle??? No use keeping those uniformed security guards when they cannot even control the crowd (they don't seem to care either). Horrific experience. Hope this set-back improves in all temples of India so it becomes easy for elderly and disabled pilgrims to have a fair chance to visit all these holy places.

While the temple is quite nice overall, the architecture amazing, the wooden deities quite unique, the devotional fervour unmatched, the rituals awe-inspiring, the devotees’ experience can leave a bitter taste in the mouth. The priests (pandas) need to have their palms well-greased, otherwise be prepared to take some filthy verbal abuse. There is an intermediate broker who will accost you and take you to the panda, and you have to shell out for him too. If you end up paying around ₹ 10K, you will get good darshan at 4 am, at about 5m distance from the deity, including a 7K forced donation to some dicey annadan scheme, and mahaprasad delivered to your hotel. The cheaper option is to deposit your shoes and phone at the free Govt stand, stand in the queue for a while, and have a quick darshan from about 20m distance, while jostling in the crowd.

I've wanted to visit the Puri Jagannath Temple for a long time and finally traveled all the way from Hyderabad. Today, I had the chance to do darshan at this temple, which is one of the four Char Dham temples in India. The Char Dham are four sacred sites that hold immense spiritual significance in Hinduism.

Even though we went at around 10 PM, the temple was extremely crowded. People were pushing and shoving as they tried to get inside, and it felt almost like a stampede. There were no proper lines or organization inside the temple, making it difficult to move around and pray peacefully. The entire darshan process took about an hour, but we could only stay inside for about 5-10 minutes due to the huge crowd.

Despite these challenges, the darshan was amazing. The idol of Lord Jagannath looked so peaceful and unique. Even with all the hurdles, we felt happy and fulfilled after coming out of the temple. However, better crowd management and proper lines would enhance the experience, allowing devotees to pray in peace after traveling long distances.

The vicinity around the revered Shree Jagannatha Temple in Puri, Odisha, showcases exemplary planning. Approximately 1.5 kilometers from the temple, a designated parking area accommodates tourist buses and taxis, ensuring a seamless experience.

Devotees are then transported to the temple via complimentary buggies, eliminating the need for walking and minimizing congestion. This thoughtful arrangement enables visitors to explore the expansive temple complex with ease.

The surrounding area boasts a visually appealing uniformity, with pink-hued buildings housing temple offices, complexes, shops, and more. Another striking feature is the standardized signage across various establishments – from sweet shops to fancy stores, medicine stores, and temple administrative offices. This consistency lends a sense of harmony and cohesion, creating a welcoming atmosphere.

It was my third visit to Puri Jagannath Temple with the family, it is yet another magnificent divine darshan of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balaram and Lord Subhadra I had this time.
Good to see the temple compound is made spacious and well maintained. It is looking awesome now. Crowd was decent as probably it was rainy time; although we did not have any problem with that.
We have a known Panda (Temple Pujari) who organized the darshan most effectively; I am grateful to him.
Technically, anyone can go and have darshan without having a guide or panda unless you want specific pujas or want to know the stories of the temple.
This time all the four entrance was made open for the devotees, although we chose to do entry from South Entrance.
It is indeed a peaceful place to be with your family and one must visit the temple at least once a year.
The temple has many stories which can make you to have goosebumps.

I visited the Jagannath Temple, Puri a Year ago. As I am from Odisha. It is a pure beauty for me. Every time I visited Puri, I always kept a heartful respect for Jagganath Prabhu. My hero, my god.

A note for travellers Please avoid to go temple after 11 AM as it is usually crowded. And also avoid taking mahaprasad out of the temple. Remember there is a shoe stand and mobile, shoe stand to submit all the gadgets inside the temple arena for free. It is not allowed to carry mobile, Belt or any type of electronic gadgets. Always remember to wear an ethenic dress when you visit the temple.

I recently went on an official trip to AMNS-Paradeep, and on my way back, it started to rain. My taxi driver mentioned, "Sir, you have come all the way from Bangalore. Why don't you visit the temple? It would be a lovely experience, and the Lord will bless you." I generally keep a day extra in my travel plan for local site signing & temple visits.
This time I hesitated at first because of the rain, but the driver arranged for a rickshaw to take me to my accommodation. I shifted from the cab to the rickshaw, so I didn’t pay much attention to the rain. While waiting in line, I got drenched but soon entered the temple.

Inside, a guide showed me around and helped me get Nevedhyam—hot prasadam. It was incredible; I had never tasted such delicious prasadam before. I wish to return with my family again later this year.
