The place is dedicate to Lord Shiva and parvati and supposed to be worshipped together. Here abhishekam through holy water is not allowed to general public as lingam is of sand like Shri Rameshwaram. One should see old tree on back side of temple as well. Enjoy..

As one of the biggest temples of India it covers over 25 acres. It has multiple gopuras and houses numerous shrines. The tallest gopura is almost 60 meters high. The layout can be a bit confusing. The temple is very crowded and at times may look chaotic due to the number of both visitors and pilgrims. Some of the most beautiful examples of architecture here are from Chola dynasty in 9th century. The most famous structure here is arguably the thousand-pillared hall.
The entire temple area features countless sculptures, figures, little shrines, and houses beautiful art. In many areas you can observe colorful rituals in progress. There are many legends surrounding this amazing temple.

... and this city is also one of the seven cities that are considered holy to Hindus. In addition: The Ekāmbarēshvara is the central temple of the largest temple complex in this city and it also has the highest gopuram there; the latter is 57m high and has 10 floors. What more could you want?!
In addition: It was King Krishnadevaraja who had this building built in 1509 - the year of his coronation - and dedicated it to Shiva.
It is an impressive sight when you stand in front of this huge temple tower. This impression remains when you come closer. Here you can see the 1000-pillar hall, which - although it only has 540 pillars - is also magnificently decorated.
The path from here, past richly figured pillars to the Garbhagriha is extremely impressive and gives indescribable impressions.
The grandeur of the object, however, unfortunately also has a disadvantage: the complex was filled with a mass of people. Fortunately, during our visit, these were exclusively people of Indian origin, but the atmosphere here was by no means characterized by devotion or other religious moods.
It's a shame - but still: If you visit this area in the region in the north of Tamil Nadu, you should definitely not miss Kanchipuram, because there are an incredible number of high-quality temples here where inner contemplation or something similar is possible.

Ekambareswarar Temple Kanchipuram located in Tamil Nadu India is considered to be one of the largest temples (in area size) in the world. This temple occupies an area of 40 acres of land, and the tallest temple building here is 11 stories high, which is believed to be the highest temple in southern India. The architectectural design is traditional ancient India style - beautifully ornate.
This temple is one of the must-see places while travelling in southern India.

This active temple and Hindu Pilgrimage site has history and inspiration. Come with a guide if you're a foreigner to learn more about Shaivism and the 5 elements. The temple complex is 25 acres and has one of the largest temple towers in India at 192 feet.

This should be biggest temple in kanchipuram. Carvings are huge and beautiful. It will take atleast an hour to see complete temple. So many big pillars and shivalingas, you will never feel tired watching them. They must have taken years to build this temple for sure. If you are visiting kanchipuram, this is must visit after kanchi kamakshi temple.

Considered one of the Pancha Bhuta Sthalam this Shiva temple will definitely boost your sense of spirituality and bliss. From the stunning architecture, to the sound of nadeswaram in the inner sanctum, to the centuries old mango tree where the union of Shiva and Parvati took place there is so much to see and take in. I even found space to meditate in peace for a while here and eat prasadam after, without being rushed out.

It is a huge temple. Probably among the biggest and beautiful temple in South India. Due to lack of maintenance and cleanliness, it disappoints me. Tamil Nādu Govt. should take initiative and care of it. Jai Bhole Nath !!!

Other than big temples in kanchipuram so many small temples in kanchipuram as well. They are located in manin streets and also around kanchipuram. They are as beautiful as well big temples, and equally old enough to big temples. Images of of 108 siva temples can be seen at http://www.tamiltour.com/108-siva-templeams-in-kanchipuram
